New Mesothelioma Treatment

By Marcus Peterson

Several new mesothelioma treatments are being developed. Researches mostly revolve around developing new treatments or improving upon the traditional treatments. Hopes are high for mesothelioma patients as new chemotherapy agents and combinations of agents are giving improved results.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a new mesothelioma treatment based on the theory that single celled organisms die when exposed to certain frequency of light. For this certain photosensitive drugs are administered intravenously. In a couple of days, the drug concentrates on the diseased cell and destroys it. Skin sensitivity, nausea and vomiting are some of the side effects.

Immunotherapy, sometimes called biological therapy, is another new method in mesothelioma treatment. In this method, the immune system of body is used to treat the disease. The body’s ability to treat itself might be hampered due to certain reasons. Immunotherapy tries to rejuvenate the immune system and there by improving the natural immune system which is the most effective way to combat any disease. The therapy also tries to repair immune systems that are faulty. Biological response modifiers (BRMs) are the substances used in immunotherapy. BRMs naturally occur in the body but it can now be prepared in laboratory and is found to give the same effect as the natural ones.

Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) is new treatment used to improve local control of mesothelioma. In this radiation doses can be administered to tumor without causing damage to nearby normal cells. Treatment at the DNA level is an important breakthrough in science. Gene Therapy tries to correct or replace abnormal genes. Replacement gene therapy and knockout gene therapy are two main types of gene therapy. In replacement gene therapy the mutated or missing gene which causes mesothelioma is replaced. In knockout gene therapy, the gene responsible for tumor is completely eliminated. With more and more information regarding genes being unfolded, gene therapy treatment has a promising future in the treatment of mesothelioma.

Treatments which use some combinations of surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, called multimodality therapy, are being researched upon. Heated intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy and use of pemetrexed drug, brand named Alimta, are some of the new developments in the treatment of mesothelioma.

Mesotherapy Risks

By Jason Gluckman

Proponents of Mesotherapy emphasize that risks of treatment are minimized because lower doses of compounds are injected into a relatively small area. However, there are certain known and potentially unknown risks associated with Mesotherapy.

The majority of known Mesotherapy Risks are in and around the injection site. Skin may become pigmented or scarred, and these changes may not fade with time. Other changes, such as swelling, pain and bruising, typically subside after treatment. In some people, a severe local reaction to substances injected may result in ulceration and subsequent scarring. There may also be a systemic and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction to injected drugs. Infections due to poor injection practices are often reported among patients of unlicensed Mesotherapy practitioners. These infections may require treatment with expensive antibiotics.

There is some concern in the medical community that several compounds commonly used in Mesotherapy have unproven benefits and unknown risks. There are many Internet sites that sell such compounds. However, most of them are located overseas and are therefore outside the jurisdiction of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The purity of compounds sold by such sites cannot be verified. To date, the FDA has not approved any compound for use in Mesotherapy, even if such a compound is approved for other uses. Additionally, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons does not endorse Mesotherapy because it is not a scientifically proven method.

Many Mesotherapy treatments require ongoing maintenance, and the costs involved in such maintenance therapy may be underestimated initially. This can be a financial risk because Mesotherapy is not covered by health insurance plans. There may also be emotional risks, particularly with treatments that require adherence to a diet and exercise plan. If such a plan is not followed, the body may revert to its pre-Mesotherapy appearance, causing stress.

Mesotherapy provides detailed information about mesotherapy, cost of mesotherapy, mesotherapy before and after, mesotherapy injections and more. Mesotherapy is the sister site of Mesothelioma Doctors Info.

Neck and Chin Liposuction

By Marius Bezuidenhout

Liposuction is a procedure that can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, love handles, saddlebags, waist, things, knees, upper arms, cheeks, chin and neck. Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that don’t respond to traditional weight-loss methods.

The proper angle of the neck-chin junction and a well defined jaw line represent one of the defining features of a youthful face. Fullness of the chin and/or a rounded out neck with poor jaw line definition can create the illusion of premature aging or being overweight, even in people who are not. The “double chin” or “full neck may be hereditary and be present at a younger age. Liposuction of the neck, in the appropriately selected patient, can redefine the contour of the mandible, restore the desired neck/chin angle, and eliminate the overweight appearance from the neck.

As people age, it’s common to develop deposits of fat in the neck and chin area, which change the once youthful contour. If you have taut, elastic skin in this region, liposuction may be able to re-sculpt the jaw line. Typically, liposuction of the neck and chin works best of patients in their 30s and 40s, whose skin is still resilient enough to return to shape after the excess fat is removed. In such candidates, the procedure may take the place of a lower face-lift. Because this type of liposuction generally involves smaller amounts of fat removal, it’s usually done as an outpatient procedure. You may notice results immediately after the procedure, though swelling can make it difficult to judge the outcome until several weeks have passed. About three months following the surgery, your final appearance should be visible. For those who have loose, hanging skin around the neck, liposuction alone probably won’t be sufficient to improve the area. Instead, you may also need a neck and face-lift, where muscles and skin are surgically re-positioned and excess skin is removed.

Micro Dermabrasion - Hurting Skin to Heal it?

By Peter Crump

Acne is an upsetting condition that can be sometimes very difficult to clear, its treatment usually involving the application to the skin of a multitude of cleansers and other potions in a long process of trial and error that can be extremely frustrating for the patient. Clear skin, when it is finally achieved, is thus a thing to be cherished by most former sufferers, and most certainly not something to be taken lightly. So while there is little doubt that recovered acne patients will view their often scarred skin with disappointment, many are unwilling to risk its hard won clarity by trying scar reducing techniques, such as micro dermabrasion, chemical peels or laser treatment. And while medical advances are improving these techniques all the time – micro dermabrasion, for example, was developed as a gentler form of more traditional dermabrasion – those with delicate skin would be wise to carefully weigh up the possible advantages of receiving treatment with the possible risks.

Many former acne patients value the current health of their skin so highly that they do not wish to compromise it by engaging in a treatment that might improve the look of their skin further for fear that they might find themselves plummeting back to the bad old days. Acne is a condition that can be painful both physically and psychologically, resulting in scars to self-esteem and confidence as well as to the skin, and is something that no recovered sufferer wishes to revisit. But while it is understandable that patients wish to preserve the clarity of their skin, the fear that micro dermabrasion, for instance, will result in a resurgence of acne is unfounded. Acne is caused specifically by the body’s overproduction of sebum, and this is not something that dermabrasion machines will induce.

But micro dermabrasion is not foolproof, and can give poor results. Though this treatment is gentler than the use of dermabrasion machines, which require the use of local anaesthetics and can leave skin quite raw, it can sometimes yield disappointing results. These kinds of treatments are also expensive, an important aspect to the patient who has probably already spend large sums of money on curing their acne problem. Many patients prefer to use home dermabrasion kits, which are not only cheaper, but leave the patient in control of their treatment. This can be an ideal way to try out this type of treatment, to better decide whether it is appropriate for them.

Choosing a Face Moisturizer

By: Juliet Cohen

Moisturizers help the skin retain and heal when environmental factors dry out our skin. They contain varying combinations of emollients, occlusives, and humectants to achieve their beneficial effects, and there is an overwhelming number of formulations available. Moisturizing creams are used by millions of consumers to revitalize the water level that is found naturally in their skin. As people go through life and face a number of activities, the skin's layer of protective lipids gets worn away. Many people nowadays have become vain in nurturing and pampering himself which has made even guys out there to focus much attention in his skin care. Some of the vanity products that people uses are specialized soaps, whitening creams, make-ups for women, and facial moisturizers among the hundreds of it. There are a hundreds of facial moisturizers made to take good care of our face. A good facial moisturizer will not only protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun, but will also prevent premature signs of aging and keep the skin healthier.

Two of the most famous and the facial moisturizer in the market nowadays are Dove and Olay. Both promote softer skin in just weeks of using it. Moisturizers often claim to heal all of the skin's ailments, but often they have the opposite effect. Organic skin lipids are sometimes added to moisturizers that in the correct proportion promote healthy skin repair. Skin type plays a role in choosing a facial moisturizer because different skin types require different levels of moisturizing. Dry skin requires more moisture than oily skin and similarly, sensitive skin also requires special attention. A good facial moisturizer will not only protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun, but will also prevent premature signs of aging and keep your skin healthier. If you have oily skin, avoid minerals oils, mineral waxes, and other pore-clogging ingredients. Mineral oils can clog pores because they trap perspiration, sit on top on the skin, and don’t get absorbed.

Most people don’t need moisturizer on the nose. The nose has an extremely high concentration of oil glands that usually don’t need any extra encouragement. The basic function of a facial moisturizer is to soothe and keep water in the skin; skin moisturizer reviews indicate most products do that pretty well. For oily skin that's prone to acne, Clean & Clear skin moisturizer contains an oil-free moisturizing formula along with salicylic acid to battle acne. Men should find moisturizers that contain a sunscreen. Men have an increased risk of skin cancer. This is most likely due to men avoiding all skin care products, including sun blocks. Sunscreens are essential for daytime wear to protect your skin from the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays. There are plenty of sunscreens on the market which hydrate the skin as well as protect the skin from the harmful rays of the sun.

Acne Skin Care Tips That You Wish You Already Knew

Constantly evaluating, analysing and changing your skin care routines is important. Your skin care routine should change based on the environmental conditions, your age and changes in your skin type. Serious skin care product tips is about maintaining a healthy and glowing skin all through your life.

As you grow older, your body's natural skin care mechanisms become weaker. So, 'serious skin care' is about responding to the changing needs of your skin.Strenuous activity can temporarily increase your bodys oil production that can actually worsen zit problem areas, causing recurrence or intensification. The composition and nature of skin care products seems to be changing with time.

Sensitive skin care is also about awareness.Knowing about serious acne skin care merchandises also means knowing how to use your skin care merchandises the correct way. Thus, increasing the effectiveness of your skin care merchandises is another focus area of serious skin care.Good practices include things like applying the moisturizers while the skin is damp, using upward strokes for better penetration of skin care skin health product, removing the make up before going to bed, cleansing before moisturising or applying make up, using the correct amount of skin care skin health product, etc. Some forethoughts, like avoiding contact with detergents, are as well part of beneficial skin care. 'beneficial skin care' means being gentle with your skin.

Things like over-exfoliation, use of low quality skin health product, and application of strong-chemical based skin health product, are all harmful to your skin. However, this really isn't serious skin care (and that's why awareness is so important). Some precautions, like avoiding contact with detergents, are also part of serious skin care. 'Serious skin care' means being gentle with your skin.

Things like over-exfoliation, use of low quality products, and application of strong-chemical based products, are all harmful to your skin.Self-surgery e.g. squeezing of acne/pimples is a big no (it can lead to permanent damage of your skin). The best skin care is as well about visiting your skin doctor for treatment of skin disorders. Ignoring the skin disorders can be fatal for your skin and might lead to permanent damage. So, if the things don't improve with over the counter medication, you should immediately visit a skin doctor. When cleaning your body after a workout, no need to scrub with force and irritate skin. If possible, wash with medicated soap (check for "exfoliant" on the label) or medicated wipes from your athletic bag where showers aren't available.

So, serious skin care product tips is more about precautions and preventive measures (than treatment). Serious skin care is about being proactive as well as reactive. Benefits of Popular Botanic Oils

By Tamra Cantar

Aromatherapy Oils and Their Benefits
Botanic oils: Salvia Sclarea or Clary Sage, Citronella Java or Cymbopogon Winterianus, Citral, Chilly Seed, Chenopodium, and Choulmogra are some of the more popular botanic oils that make up aromatherapy blends.
Salvia Sclarea or Clary Sage is indigenous to Bulgaria; it is a large herb with fuzzy large leaves. The oils are drawn out by a steam distillation process. The oils are light golden yellow and used frequently in aromatherapy for many, many things such as antispasmodic, deodorant, antidepressant, sedative, easing of hypertension, and it has also been known to relieve symptoms of asthma. The medium or strong scented oils blend well with a variety of other oils, including: Bergamot, Chamomile, Cedarwood, Neroli, Jasmine, Rosewood, Lavender, Orange, Geranium, Sandalwood, and Ylang Ylang oils.
Citronella Java or Cymbopogon Winterianus oils are derivatives of gum plants. They are also steam distilled and extracted from the plants. The origination point for citronella is Sri Lanka. It is a tropical bluish green grass with lemon scented leaves that contain yellowish brown aromatic oils that are used as aromatherapy. The oils are used in perfumes, soaps, scented candles and as insect repellent. They lessen the symptoms of colds and flu; can treat oily hair/skin and acute perspiration. The medium scents blend well with Pine, Bergamot, Lavender, Bitter Orange, Orange, Cedarwood, Lemon, and Geranium oils.
Citral is another of the botanic oils. The oils are extracted via the steam distilling process, from stems and roots of Chinese Citral plants. The light yellow oils produce a strong lemon scent, as well as an herbaceous scent. They are used as an antidepressant, an antiseptic, to soothe aches and pains, and to reduce stress. The oils can treat foot odor and itching, acne, scabies, and oily skin.
Chilly Seed oils of Mexico originate in Southern and Central America. The oils are distilled from the seeds of the plant. The rich reddish-orange oils are often used in aromatherapy. They have analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents; they comfort spasms associated with the digestive system. The strong scents do not blend well with other oils.
Chenopodium or American Wormseed Oils are extracted from the plant’s fruits and leaves and are steam distilled. The Russian plant’s oils can remove Ascariasis or roundworms, as well as function as diuretics. The strong scent does not blend with other oils.
Chaulmoogra is an aromatherapy oil that can treat rheumatism, skin disease, eczema, bruising, sores, and sprains. The oils originated in India but are currently used all over the world.

You don't have to quit smoking alone

by Darren Warmuth

One of the hardest things to do is to quit smoking. And when you're just beginning the journey as a non-smoker, you can feel very isolated and alone. One of the keys to success of becoming a non-smoker is to set up a support system. Whether it be family support (be cautious in who you choose), online, or at a local smoking cessation meeting, having a support system is vital.

The online support option is fanatastic for those who have limited time in which to establish a local system. By joining up with community forums that host a smoking cessation board, you get the opportunity to speak with others looking to accomplish the same goal you are.

Once you have found a message board you like, dig down and you will probably find that it is broken down into differing areas that correspond to the stage of quitting that you are currently in. And as I've said before, even though you think your particular situation is unique, you will most likely find that others before have encountered the exact same situation.

Family and friends, on the other hand, can be a blessing or a curse. They may feel that they are being 'extra' supportive by inquiring repeatedly on how you are doing, but this can become downright irritating and in worst cases, actually cause you to relapse.

Many family members and friends mean well and think they're being encouraging by doing this, when you're going through withdrawal symptoms and are naturally more agitated, this can be detrimental to your success. Sometimes just discussing this with them, before your quit day, can help nip it in the bud and make it a smoother transition.

Perhaps there is a local support group that can help you as well. In most cases these are held for little cost or even free at local health centers, schools and even churches. Check them out for you may find them quite helpful.

Usually lasting about an hour or so, local support groups will give you the opportunity (as with online forums) to speak with others in the same situation as you. One of the huge benefits of course it the personal contacts you will make which could develop into quitting buddies. Having a buddy to assist you can be a great ally in remaining a non-smoker.

Whichever method you choose the chances for your success are greatly improved, by having a strong support system set in place, before your quit day. Making sure that you have utilized every tool that is available to you is only going to increase your chances of starting a new life as a nonsmoker.

Need assistance to stop smoking ? Darren Warmuth has a few additional tips on helping you quit smoking . Just click the link here!Don't reprint the same version as everyone else. Get your own unique content stop smoking article here.

Top 10 Natural Acne Treatment Tips To Overcoming Acne

By: wjennin

Why is it that some people find their acne skin conditions difficult to treat. This list of skin care tips has been restricted to 10 since anything more that that would not only be difficult to remember, but also shadow the more important skin care tips. So let's see what these top ten skin care tips are. Sound skin is really one of the most important ingredients for beauty-enhancement. This article on skin care tips is an attempt to bring the 10 best skin care tips to you.Cleansing is especially important when you have been out of your house (and hence exposed to pollutants, dust etc). This skin care tip also advocates the use of Luke warm water for cleansing (hot and cold water, both, cause damage to your skin). Cleanse your skin regularly (1-2 times everyday). A very effective skin care tip that helps in getting rid of the dirt and other harsh elements from your skin.Skin type is something people neglect or do not understand when it comes to acne. It is a fact that all the skin care products specify the type of skin they cater too. Knowing your skin type is one of the most important skin care tip. This is important because not every skin care product suits everybody.Don't end up with desert skin, because you forgot to moisturize. Dryness causes the outer layer of your skin to break, leading to a rough and unattractive appearance. Use moisturisers/ emollients. Moisturisers work best when applied while the skin is still damp. Keep your skin moist at all times. This is one of the most important skin care tip.Water is one of our most precious resources, and your skin craves it. Water, water, and more water is required to hydrate your skin. It might seem a bit awkward to some, however, this is an important skin care tip. 'Drink a lot of water'. This will not keep your skin moist but will help in overall upkeep of your health (and in turn your skin).Stress, who needs it, certainly not your skin. Find way to make life simpler by vanquishing the stress. Yes, stress harms skin too. So, take a break or indulge in a warm bubble bath or just get beneficial sleep. The adverse effects of stress are known to everybody, nevertheless, sometimes stating the obvious is essential too (and hence this skin care tip found its place here).Similarly, if you find something that works, don't apply too much or too many skin care products. A must-to-follow skin care tip.Be gentle, after all it's your skin. Don't scrub/exfoliate too hard or too often. You can use day-time moisturisers that have sunscreen built into them. Use them even when it's cloudy. UV radiations are known to cause skin cancer, so follow this skin care tip without fail. Avoid the use of soap on your face. Soap should only be used from below the neck. A small but important skin care tip. Use sunscreen to protect yourself from sun's harmful UV radiations.Consult your dermatologist before you go on to use a skin care product (lest you do end up harming your skin even more). Treat skin dilemmas with care. This skin care tip is about not ignoring any skin dilemmas.A bit of exercise and good sleep are essential too, not just for skin care but for your health as a whole. Lack of sleep can lead to formation of wrinkles below your eyes and lack of exercise can cause your skin to slack. Moreover, exercise and sleep also help in beating stress. So besides being a skin care tip, this is also a health care tip.

What's Good For An Abscess?

By Charles Browne

An abscess, an accumulation of pus normally caused by bacterial infection, can occur anywhere in the body. As the bacterial infection attempts to spread through the area, white blood cells come and attack the bacteria. White blood cells, the body's defenders against infection, accumulate to form pus. The body then builds a tissue wall around the pus to keep any remaining bacteria from spreading.

There are various types of abscesses depending on the part of the body they are found. This article deals mainly with those found on the skin. An abscess which forms around a hair follicle is a boil. A severe abscess, which covers several hair follicles, is called a carbuncle. Symptoms may include pain or tenderness, swelling, heat, redness, or a fever. If an abscess forms just under the skin, it usually appears as a bump.

Vitamins and herbs are considered helpful in combating an abscess. Herbs can be taken internally to strengthen the body's defense systems. These herbs include: Burdock, Cayenne, Dandelion, Echinacea, Garlic, Red Clover, Milk Thistle, and Yellow Dock. Herbs may also be applied directly to the abscess, to be absorbed through the skin. Herbs used externally include: Aloe Vera, Burdock, Chamomile, Sage, and Thyme. Vitamins, which may be helpful, include: Beta-carotene, B Complex, C, E, and Zinc.

Your body can't heal itself if you don't give it the proper tools. Good nutrition is very important for healing as well as boosting the immune system, which will lower the risk of developing an abscess in the first place. Try to consume lots of fruits and vegetables. Plenty of water is important; you need 8-12 cups of water daily. Limit consumption of dairy foods, unhealthy fats, junk foods, meat, sugar, and white flour.

Charles Browne is a research writer for, a free online encyclopedia concerning herbs and other healing foods used in nutritional healing and disease prevention.

How to Apply Acrylic Nails

By Virginia Reali

The first ten steps in preparing to apply acrylic nails are the most important as these steps will determine success or failure:

1. Clean your hands and spray with anti-bac.
2. Push the cuticles back with an orangewood sticks/cuticle sticks.
3. Lightly buff the shine off the nail with a 100/180 grit file.
4. Apply the tip. Ensure you have selected the correct size for each nail, do this first and lay them out from large to small for each nail. Cut the tip to the desired length.
5. Run line eliminator across the seamline of each tip and blend with a file.
6. Gently buff the shine off the tip (do not do this if you are using airbrushed or tips with a design, only do this for natural coloured tips).
7. Remove all the dust from your nails with a nail brush.
8. Spray the nail again with Anti-Bac spray.
9. Apply Nail Prep to the natural part of the nail - this removes the excess oils from the nail plate. Allow to thoroughly dry.
10. Apply a dab of Primer to the centre of each nail on the natural nail part. Be careful not to get this on the cuticles and only a sparingly small amount is required. Allow to dry thoroughly. The primer sets down the chemical base for the acrylic to adhere to.

You are now ready to apply the acrylic:

1. Put a small amount of monomer (acrylic liquid) into a Glass dappen dish.
2. Dip the brush in about 2/3rds of the way into the monomer in the dish. Wipe the brush on the sides of the dappen to remove the excess liquid.
3. Drag the brush across the surface of the powder forming a medium ball.
4. Allow the liquid to absorb into the ball until a medium-wet consistency is achieved.
5. You are going to divide the nail into 3 parts to apply the acrylic, the top part = area 1, the middle = area 2, the edge of the nail = part 3. Apply the ball to area 1 being careful not to get any acrylic on the cuticle area (if you do this will eventually lead to lifting). Gently press the ball down and smooth out using the brush.
6. Repeat this process with areas 2 and 3, blending each area with the previous area and stroking downwards.
7. Apply one more thin layer over the entire nail.
8. Using the 100/180 file, shape the nail and using the 180 grit side of the file blend the acrylic down into the cuticle area.
9. Remove the dust with a nail brush.
10. Apply cuticle oil and rub into the cuticles.
11. Wash hands.
12. Apply two coats of a good quality top coat to seal.

There is one warning, when you purchase acrylic liquid be sure to ask the supplier if it is free of MMA. MMA is a harmful chemical which is banned in the USA because of the health risks it can cause. MMA also sets the acrylic compound too hard and this will damage your nail.
