Weight Control Is The Way To Health

By Raymond Geok Seng Lee

Excessive body weight compounds many health problems. It stresses the heart, the muscles, and the bones. It increases the likelihood of hernias, hemorrhoids, gallbladder disease, and many other conditions. Excess weight makes breathing more difficult, slows you down, makes you less effective in personal encounters, and lowers your self-image. Fat people are hospitalized more frequently than people with normal weight. They have more surgical complications, more cases of breast cancer, more high blood pressure, more heart attacks, and more strokes.

Weight control is a difficult task. Fortunately, it becomes a little easier for seniors than for others. Maximum body weights are generally obtained between 45 and 64 years of age; after this most individuals do lose some weight. Excess weight is very seldom due to thyroid disease or other specific illness. For most of us the problem and the solution are personal, not medical. As with the other habits that change health, management of this problem begins with its recognition as a problem. Weight control requires continued attention. For those of us with a potential problem, the vigilance must be lifelong.

Increasingly, exercise is being seen as an important key to weight control. Part of every weight control program should be an exercise program. Obesity is not just the result of overeating. Obese people, when studied carefully, are found to move around less than other people and, therefore, to burn too few calories. Thirty-five hundred calories equals about a pound of body weight. If you take in 3,500 calories less than you burn, you lose a pound. If you take in 3,500 calories more than you burn, you gain a pound. If you want your horse to lose weight, you just give him less hay or exercise him more.

These are two important phases to weight control: the weight reduction phase and the weight maintenance phase. The weight reduction phase is the easier. Here the method you use to lose weight doesn’t matter very much, although you should check with your doctor if you plan to lose a large amount of weight quickly to make sure the diet you intend to use is a sound one. During the weight loss stage, many of your calories are provided by your own body fat and protein as they are being broken down, so you need little or no fat and much less protein in your diet during this period. Complex carbohydrates are important to most sound diets. Diets usually have a gimmick of some kind that encourages you and helps you to remember the diet.

Most people have some success in losing weight. If you set a target, tell people what you are trying to do, and stick with it for a while, you can probably lose weight. Remember that it has to go slowly, however, since even a total fast will cause true weight loss of less than a pound a day. Rapid changes in weight are generally due to loss of fluid. Because low-calorie diets tend to be lower in salt, the first few days of a diet give you a false sense of accomplishment as you lose some of the fluid that the salt was retaining in your body. Then, when the rate of weight loss slows down, you may think that the diet has failed. You have to be patient with the weight loss phase. A pound a week is a reasonable goal. This requires elimination of the equivalent of one day’s food each week.

The second phase is maintenance, maintaining the desired weight you have achieved. This is more difficult, and it requires constant attention. Weight yourself regularly and record the weight on a chart. Draw a red line at three pounds over your desired weight and keep your weight below the line, using whatever method works best for you. It is easier and healthier to make frequent small adjustments in what you eat than to try to counteract binges of overeating with dieting. Keep yourself off the dietary roller coaster.

Many people just can’t keep weight off no matter how hard they try. For some people, overweight is determined by their genes. If this is you, don’t feel guilty about your failure to lose weight. But you must work twice as hard to reduce all of your other health risks. You must find a way to exercise, eat less fat, and if you smoke, quit.

Where to Start When You Want to Lose Weight

By John D Scott

When it comes to losing weight, trust me, you are not alone. It's estimated that over half of the American population is overweight and the majority of those people are in some way or another involved in some sort of diet or otherwise in the efforts to shed off those extra pounds.

The most difficult thing to decide once you've finally decided to get started with weight loss is actually picking a weight loss program. With all the weight loss programs that now exist there are so many things people have to consider and have to watch out for as well. You really have to make sure that you find the weight loss program that is right for you and getting to that point is often very difficult.

Here's a little check list you might want to consider before you make a decision:

1. Check with you doctor before making any decision which regards your health.
There are many weight loss methods and programs that exist out there today that can be harmful to your health if you are not careful. For this reason, it is very important to speak to a health care provider before you take anything or do anything, just to be on the safe side.

2. Keep a diary.
It has been proven by nutritionists and health care providers alike that weight loss success rates are much higher when the person has a record of what they are consuming. Jotting down what you eat when you eat it and writing your feelings about it and the situation can help you look back and find patterns, good and bad habits, etc. and will help you be a huge help to yourself, almost like an outsider looking in. Your ability to analyze your behavior is an extremely helpful tool for weight loss.

3. Know your health risk factor.
It is very important to know where you lie as far as your health is concerned. If you are person just looking to shed off a few extra pounds you don't have to worry as much as someone who needs to drop the weight based on a health risk (usually a BMI of over 30 is something to be concerned about).

4. Research
There are many programs out there that promise weight loss but have a lot of risk factors you need to consider before using them. If you are interested in a particular method, research it well and then determine whether you are okay with the risks involved (if any) and whether it seems to be something that fits you personally.

5. Know what you're buying.
Once you decide to buy a product, make sure you know exactly what you are getting. Remember, there are a lot of people looking to get a quick buck by ripping people off and selling something that really doesn't work like they say it does.

Don't be afraid to ask questions like what does the program include? How many calories will I be allowed? Do I need to take extra supplements? Is anything forbidden? What will I mostly be eating? Will I have to exercise? Does the food plan change as the program moves along?

Being informed will keep you on top of your game and avoid you being ripped off or cheated by anybody looking for a quick buck. You should know that when a plan has zero physical activity, it probably isn't good for you. Also, when a plan requires too many additional supplements or too little calories are also causes for concern.

Top 7 Tips to Prevent Colds and Flu

By Raymond Geok Seng Lee

Because you can only treat the conditions caused by colds or flu, prevention should be your goal. Many such tips come down to using common sense about your health.

1. Wash your hands frequently, preferably with a disinfectant, anti-bacterial soap

If no soap is available, use plain hot water. Wash more frequently if you’re around sick people. Most cold and flu viruses are spread by direct contact and then touching your nose, eyes, or mouth before washing your hands
.
2. Don’t cover your sneezes and coughs with your hands

Although you may think you are just being polite, covering your hands with clinging viruses won’t do anyone any good. When you feel a sneeze or cough coming on, turn your head away from people or look down while you expel your germs into the air. If you find yourself instinctively covering up anyway, use a paper tissue, dispose of it immediately, and wash your hands.

3. Drink plenty of fluids

A typical healthy adult needs eight 8-ounce glasses of water or healthy liquids a day. You may need to drink more than this if you have a fever. To be sure that you are getting enough fluids, check your urine. It should look close to clear instead of a deep yellow.

4. Get fresh air

Regular doses help to purge any airborne cold or flu viruses. Getting fresh air is especially important during cold weather when central heating dries you out and makes you more vulnerable to viruses. Open your windows and doors for a few minutes daily to circulate fresh air and help push out those freeloading airborne viruses.

5. Get a flu shot if you are in a high-risk group: 65 or older; prone to chronic diseases

Anyone can get a flu shot, and you may want to if you work in close proximity to large groups of people. Because some strains of viruses change so frequently, inoculations are good for one year. They are usually administered in autumn, just before the flu begins, and generally take two weeks to become active.

6. Maintain a healthy diet

Eating right ensures healthy cell and tissue reproduction, maintains strong muscle and bone systems, and provides your body with the fuels it needs to keep your immune system in top shape.

7. Take vitamin C

Vitamin C stimulates a natural virus killer and mobilizes the immune cells that patrol your body to attack invading colds and flu viruses. No one knows for sure if vitamin C actually prevents colds and flu. But most health practitioners accept that vitamin C can shorten the duration of colds and flu.

How To Stop Sweating With Surgery

By Paolo Basauri

Excessive sweating, a condition medically known as hyperhidrosis is an embarrassing thing. Patients who suffer from this condition have sweat dripping out of their faces, hands, armpits or feet – literally. Although some type of sweating can be attributed to psychological factors such as anxiety or stress-levels there is other type of hyperhidrosis which its exact causes are unknown. This generates frustration and embarrassment in people, but there is a choice thanks to the advance of medicine, the ETS.

ETS stands for Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy, and this is a surgery that consists on manipulating the sympathetic chain that triggers sweating. You see, when you have hyperhidrosis of any kind, your glands are overactive, making you sweat way more than you need.

Suring this surgery, you are put under general anesthesia and the doctor inserts in you body small instruments through a tiny incision, and then manipulate your sympathectomy chain from the outside. This is the reason why patients can walk out of the hospital just hours after the surgery as been performed, but still your body has to learn to adapt to the new changes and this adaptive process may take a week.

The ETS is as we speak, the most effective way to treat hyperhidrosis. Success rates are between 85% to 95% and the patients end up relived and happy. Mostly because hyperhidrosis is a condition that carries a social stigma with it, and parts you from society. There could be some minor effects because of the surgery (some patients say they start sweating on other places like in the back), but people consider them minor compared to the trauma of having wet hands, feet or armpits all the time.

If you have hyperhidrosis, you too can benefit yourself from this surgery. Be sure to consult with your doctor, and he’ll fill you on all the details for the ETS, even its risk and side effects.
Paolo Basauri invites you to learn more about Hyperhidrosis Treatments on stopsweatyhands.net

Natural Teeth Whitening Just Got Better

By Matt Wittchow

Teeth whitening is now something everybody does as a matter of routine. Beauty treatments more often than not today include creating a perfect smile, i.e. teeth whitening. There are many methods available, each one better than the last since the latest technology is applied with every new product. The results with the chemical bleaches are fast and dazzling. Nonetheless, today the global market is shifting towards natural (read, without chemicals) products.

This is why there is a great emphasis on developing and promoting natural teeth whitening products vis-à-vis the standard bleaching agents that are used, i.e. hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide.

The trend for natural teeth whitening is growing and in response to the growing demand there is a lot of improvement in these natural products. The most common of all are the toothpaste with herbal ingredients that help removing plaque, and stains from the enamel over a period of time. Some of these ingredients are bamboo powder, silica, calcium carbonate, sodium chloride and so on. These are great products which do work very well. However, they are slow in showing results and need to be used regularly.

The Advantages Provided By Natural Teeth Whitening Products

There are many advantages that the use of natural teeth whitening products. Some of the most important one are mentioned below:

1. Safe – the first and foremost on the list is that these natural teeth whitening products are very safe as compared to their chemical counterparts. The impact on the enamel of the teeth as well as on the soft tissues of the mouth is minimal, if at all. This is why most people prefer these products even when the results are much slower to see.

2. No side effects – there are no side effects from using these natural ingredients and hence, even if the products are not used as indicated, you would never find yourself with any negative results.

3. Simple yet scientific – most of the natural remedies are simple, easy to do and are based on plain science. Substances such as common salt, baking soda, vitamin C and the like do improve the color of the enamel which can be explained scientifically. The herbs and natural ingredients that go into the natural teeth whitening products are based on thousands of years of wisdom on ancient civilizations. Their impact has been proved scientifically and in many cases adopted by the modern science and medicine.

Other things that can improve the color of teeth without the use of chemicals are the proper habits for oral hygiene. You need to avoid abuse of beverages such as tea, coffee coca cola and the like. It is said that anything that could stain a white T-shirt can stain your teeth as well.

Did you know that adding a few drops of tea tree oil can prevent bacteria formation and bad breath. So does green tea and essential oils of almond, peppermint and spearmint. These ingredients are now found in most of the herbal teeth whitening systems and products enhancing their capacity to ensure overall oral health besides improving the color of your teeth. This is one of the main reasons why people are slowly shifting from chemical products to natural products.

Another major factor is that the natural teeth whitening products are far more affordable than their counterparts making it easier to experiment with them. The experimentation usually creates a good impact and the person who tried it for curiosity, most often than not becomes a lifelong user of these products.
Overall the natural products have improved over their chemical counterparts which has resulted in increased demand and popularity for the herbal products.
Try home remedies for teeth whitening that can be as good as any professional teeth whitening process.

Dermabrasion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dermabrasion is a cosmetic medical procedure in which the surface of the epidermis of the skin the stratum corneum is removed by abrasion (sanding). It is used to remove sun-damaged skin and to remove or lessen scars and dark spots on the skin. The procedure is very painful and usually requires a general anaesthetic or twilight anaesthesia, in which the patient is still partly conscious [1] Afterward, the skin is very red and raw-looking, and it takes several months for the skin to regrow and heal. Dermabrasion is useful for scar removal when the scar is raised above the surrounding skin, but is less effective with sunken scars.

In the past, dermabrasion was done using a small, sterilized, electric sander. In the past decade, it has become more common to use a CO2 or Erbium:YAG laser. Laser dermabrasion is much easier to control, much easier to gauge, and is practically bloodless compared to classic dermabrasion.

Micro Dermabrasion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Microdermabrasion (often referred to as Microderm) is a cosmetic procedure popular in day spas, doctors' practices, and medical spas, in which the stratum corneum (dead outermost surface of the skin) is partially or completely removed by light abrasion. Different methods include mechanical abrasion from jets of zinc oxide or aluminum oxide crystals, fine organic particles, or a roughened surface. Particles and removedoff through the wand/handpiece through which the abrasive particles come [1] The term dermabrasion itself refers to the more severe medical procedure carried out under general or light anesthesia.

Microdermabrasion is used to remove sun-damaged skin and to remove or lessen scars and dark spots on the skin. The procedure is not very painful and requires no anaesthetic. Microdermabrasion can be used medically for scar removal when the scar is raised above the surrounding skin, but is less effective with sunken scars. There is very little, if any, evidence that microdermabrasion stimulates collagen formation. Microdermabrasion can also be used for treatment of acne, but must be repeated periodically to be effective. Microdermabrasion should not be used on patients who have taken the medication Accutane (Isotretinion) in the previous twelve months.

In the past, microdermabrasion was carried out using abrasive crystals. However, in the last decade, it has become more common to use a wand with a roughened surface. This procedure requires no medical oversight and is commonly used in conjunction with facial spa treatments. These days there are a multiplicity of machines available for microdermabrasion.

The growth of the microdermabrasion treatment industry has led to innovations and there are currently a few different microdermabrasion systems available. In terms of professional microdermabrasion systems there are two choices:

1. Crystal microdermabrasion

2. Diamond microdermabrasion

Crystal microdermabrasion systems are the traditional treatment of choice and rely on tiny crystals that are blasted onto the skin to perform the exfoliating process. Although the crystal microdermabrasion system is still widely used, the introduction of alternatives has led to a trend away from this treatment system.

Diamond microdermabrasion systems operate without the need for crystals. The exfoliation process occurs when a diamond tipped head makes contact with the skin and abrades against it. In both crystals and diamond microdermabrasion systems the dead skin cells are sucked away from the face.

Home microdermabrasion systems are an increasingly popular alternative to professional treatments. These are cheap and very easy to perform, and although not as powerful as professional systems, can produce good results over time. There is a great deal of competition in the home microdermabrasion systems market with most of the big cosmetics and skin care brands launching their own home systems.

Coconut oil

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Coconut oil is a fat consisting of about 90% saturated fat. The oil contains predominantly medium chain triglycerides,[1] with roughly 92% saturated fatty acids, 6% monounsaturated fatty acids, and 2% polyunsaturated fatty acids. Of the saturated fatty acids, coconut oil is primarily 44.6% lauric acid, 16.8% myristic acid and 8.2% palmitic acid, although it contains seven different saturated fatty acids in total. Its only monounsaturated fatty acid is oleic acid while its only polyunsaturated fatty acid is linoleic acid.[2]

Unrefined coconut oil melts at 24-25°C (76°F) and smokes at 170°C (350°F),[3] while refined coconut oil has a higher smoke point of 232°C (450°F).

Coconut oil has a long shelf life compared to other oils, lasting up to two years due to its high saturated fat content; saturated fats resist rancidity. Coconut oil is best stored in solid form—i.e., at temperatures lower than 24.5°C (76°F)—in order to extend shelf life. However, unlike most oils, coconut oil will not be damaged by warmer temperatures.

From a Nurse: Using Coconut Oil as an Effective Acne Treatment

By Helen Hecker

Sometimes one has to resort to alternative, natural, effective treatment methods to get the best cure or solution to their acne, zits and pimple problems.

And often it's a better choice, due to less exposure to drugs and chemical-laden acne products.
It should always be the first type of treatment to consider when you want to take the best care of your skin.

One of the best things I've found to heal acne is extra virgin coconut oil. It works better than acne creams, which are usually chemical-laden products, or acne medicines, whether for babies, teens or adults.

Make sure you're working on eliminating the cause of your acne, which we won't go into here.
Extra virgin coconut oil has helped many to help heal their acne. Ultimately, of course, the immune system and body do the healing if you were to do nothing, but coconut oil can speed up the process.

The coconut oil actually penetrates the skin and helps the body get rid of the impurities, and therefore acne, while the toxins are expelled from the skin. The skin should show improvement in a few weeks with continued application.

One teenager had used prescription medicines for three to four years for his acne and they didn't work. He tried coconut oil and it cleared up with just a few applications.

Some teens and adults find their acne actually worsens for a few days, which is actually the body getting rid of its impurities. Then it completely clears up. By continuing to apply the coconut oil, it helps prevent acne recurrences.

If you also have eczema it'll treat eczema too. And it's better than most eczema products on the market today. Often people find they have both eczema and acne.

You want to make sure you get the extra virgin type of coconut oil that is not refined, bleached or deodorized.

You can order it online. And whole food-type markets are now carrying more coconut oil, in pint and quart jars and especially the extra virgin coconut oil. Get the organic kind if you can.

Coconut oil has many benefits; it heals or cures many other skin conditions and skin disorders too, besides making the skin soft and smooth. I use it for everything including as a make-up remover and under my foundation.

My skin is always soft, silky, smooth, and free of rashes, bumps, blemishes, blisters, etc. It stops itching and flaking too.

Coconut oil is very inexpensive, therefore, a good, cheap home remedy. Keep it around to treat any other skin problem. It's actually healthy to eat too. It's a plant saturated fat, not an animal saturated fat.

I add two big tablespoons to my smoothies, to help my skin from the inside out, and have been doing so for many years.

Although we refer to it as coconut oil, it isn't actually oily until the temperature climbs above 77 degrees. It can be applied when it is oily or non-oily.

For an acne treatment, first apply the extra virgin coconut oil to a small test area. Try it on this test area for a few days.

Apply a thin layer of coconut oil and massage it deep into the skin. You can heat it if you like but you don't have to. Do this every morning. Depending on how severe the acne is, apply it three or four times a day or more and especially at bedtime.

Remember the complexion may get worse at first as the body gets rid of the impurities from the skin.

It's important to keep the area moist with coconut oil. You may have to soak a bandage with the oil and apply it loosely to your skin.

Also you can expose the area to direct sunlight for 20 minutes or so each day. You'll get your daily dose of vitamin D that way too.

Many have used coconut oil as a treatment to cure or heal their acne, including teens, adults and babies too.

It just takes motivation, a willingness to try it, and diligent application of coconut oil several times daily and at bedtime.

And you should be able to get rid of your acne, zits and pimples and their symptoms, providing you've removed the cause, so it doesn't reoccur. Continue using coconut oil and the benefits of good, clear skin, free of acne should be your reward.

Coconut Oil Again Becomes Recognized

By Rita Lambros-Segur

Coconut oil, which had taken a backseat due to the aggressive campaign against saturated fats during the last 50 years or so, is now back in the limelight. This renewed interest in coconut oil has arisen because of the new revelations scientific research has made about its therapeutic properties and health benefits, busting some myths about the popularly used polyunsaturated vegetable oils.

We have been told all this while to abandon saturated fats like coconut oil, butter and margarine in favor of polyunsaturated fats like corn oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil, canola oil, and the like. However, this has apparently turned out to be more of a mistaken belief or a marketing gimmick than plain truth.

And this is borne out by two key facts: (i) People who live in tropical islands consume coconut oil in a major way, yet do not seem to suffer from cardiovascular diseases attributed to saturated fats consumption; in fact, they appear to be enjoying better cardiovascular health than an average American. (ii) Most of the American population, which has been thriving predominantly on polyunsaturated oils for the past 50 years, has on the contrary shown only increase in conditions like obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, cancers, and other age-related degenerative diseases.

What Makes Coconut Oil So Unique?

New scientific research indicates that coconut oil, though having 92% saturated fat content, is one of the healthiest oils. Being saturated makes it an extremely stable oil not susceptible to degeneration and rancidity, unlike the polyunsaturated vegetable oils, which readily get oxidized upon heating. Its health benefits stem mainly from its medium chain fatty acids, particularly lauric acid (the only other natural source of which is breast milk and to some extent butter).
Coconut oil has been shown to be associated with the following health benefits:

• It stimulates the thyroid gland and helps fight hypothyroidism, i.e., impaired thyroid function.
• It increases the metabolic rate due to improved thyroid activity and hence helps in weight loss and fight against obesity.
• Its stability factor lends it antioxidant properties, which help improve the cardiovascular health.
• It strengthens the immune system.
• It has anti-aging properties and lends youthful appearance and glow to the skin when consumed or applied topically. It also lends a healthy sheen to the hair when applied on the scalp.
• It has anticancer properties and has been found to protect against colon cancer.
• It has anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.

These are some of the benefits of coconut oil. Apart from giving us this wonderful oil, the coconut fruit also gives us coconut water, coconut milk and coconut meat (the flesh), all of which come perfectly packaged by nature. And they all are extremely nourishing as well as delicious. Coconut water is the perfect natural health drink. The milk is generally used in curry preparations; the meat can be consumed as it is or used for making chutneys and sweet dishes.
If there is one food that can be considered as the new superfood of the 21st century, it's got to be coconut oil without doubt.

Beauty Tips for Women Over 50

By Juliet Cohen

Beautiful skin, a beautiful body and a beautiful sense of style does not have an end once you hit 50s. There’s very little difference between the recommended diet and exercise habits for a 20-year-old and that of a 50-year-old. In fact, the only difference is that a healthy diet and regular exercise are more important than ever. During the aging process, the key to keeping your body properly functioning and in shape is to eat healthy and stay active.

At 50 and older, most adults are still capable of completing most exercises. Exercising can mean taking daily 40 minutes walk with your partner or alone, enjoying exercise videos at home. Botox injections can ease wrinkles in the upper third of the face. Chemical peels are effective in removing fine lines and smoothing skin, especially around the eyes and mouth. Wrinkle fillers can plump up your skin and erase lines.

Women over 50 usually look better with a cream lipsticks rather than a matte or gloss and in a pinch your lipsticks can double as a blush. Lips tend to lose definition and color, and become thinner with age. One of the great makeup tricks for aging skin is using a neutral lip liner to add plumpness with a sheer lipstick to avoid feathering (we like berries and browns). Use a lip liner to help define lips. Try a lip liner whose color is very close to the natural shade of your lips and both line and fill in the lips with this pencil prior to using your lip color. Carry a stash of different lipsticks in daring shades in your purse for different occasions, outfits, and moods. Use makeup to accentuate your positive qualities and make yourself feel great.

Women Over 50 and Beauty Tips

1. Using heavy makeup and powders does not compliment dryer skin.
2. Heavily powdered skin will make your skin look matte and dry.
3. Just as the pigment in our hair changes and it turns grey, the melanin in our skin changes also.
4. Don't give into the idea that you have to own every new color that is fashionable for a particular season.
5. Use a humidifier. Use moisturizing soaps and lotions.
6. Good nutrition helps the body repair skin.
7.Drinking lots of water helps hydrate skin from the inside out.
8. Use products with SPF 15 or higher, and both UVB and UVA protection.

Acne And Green Tea

By: Elaine Clay

Green tea is used by the Chinese as a traditional medicine to treat many ailments including acne and to improve general well-being. But does it provide an effective herbal alternative to modern medication?

The answer seems to be ‘Yes’. There are only two herbal treatments that are known to be effective in treating acne and green tea is one of them.

In a recent study by Jennifer Gan-Wong, M.D. a green tea cream was trailed against a 4% benzoyl peroxide solution on people suffering with moderate to severe acne. The results from this research study showed that green tea was just as good in treating acne as the benzoyl peroxide.

But benzoyl peroxide dries out skin causing itching or allergic reactions. Unlike green tea that has the added advantages of natural anti-bacterial properties and antioxidants, particularly epigallocatechin gallate which is 200 times more powerful than vitamin E at fighting free radicals.

Green tea also helps to reduce inflammation, hormonal activity and aids in detoxification - which is all good news for acne sufferers.

Green tea extract is an extremely versatile herbal supplement - it can be administered topically, often being used in creams, taken as a in the form of a pill or incorporated into your diet and drunk as a tea.

This last method is very popular (Green Tea with Honeysuckle is often known as ‘Pimple Tea’ in many Chinatowns) when drunk after a meal it aids digestion and helps to detoxify your system, getting rid of the toxins that can cause acne. Tip: don’t drink it with sugar, this will neutralize the worthwhile effects of the tea.

It seems that taking green tea for acne is a win-win situation… It has many beneficial properties which promote good all-round health with little or no known side effects and for the price, green tea it’s definitely a herbal treatment that’s worth trying.

How to Stop Hearing Loss?

By Rudy Silva

My mother is almost 90 years and has a hearing loss problem. Her problem started when she was around 70 years. But, most health or physical issues start much earlier. They start from the early twenties or sooner. As you age, your various organs and physical structures start to weaken and deteriorate and become less active. The deterioration rate depends on your emotional and physical health.
Your health depends on your eating habits and the nutrients that you supply to your body.

Loud Noises

How can you tell if you will have hearing loss when you get older? First you have to protect your ears from over stimulation. Listening to loud music with or without ear phone can damage your ear and make them less sensitive as you age. It is best to keep the volume natural. If you work in a high noise surrounding, then you need to use protective ear covers.

Next, when you clean your ears of ear wax, is the wax hard or soft? If it is hard, then you need to eat more good oils - omega 3, omega 6, and omega 9. These oils - olive oil, fish oil, flax oil, hemp oil, caster oil, and primrose oil - help keep ear wax softer and easier to clean out of your ears. Hard wax is hard to clean out of your ears and tends to deposit on your ear drum, slowly over time, making it stiff and less able to vibrate.
Anti-oxidants

Make sure your diet is high in anti-oxidants. This can be in the form of food - fruits and vegetables - or supplements. But keep in mind that only a certain amount of the supplements you take are absorbed. So you normally need to take more than is recommended. A good anti-oxidant will help fight off and eliminate free radicals that damage the tissue in your ear drum and surrounding areas. Free radicals can damage your ear by causing ear inflammation. This inflammation can cause loss of hearing and permanent damage to your ear.

MSM Remedy

One other remedy that you can use to keep your ears healthy is to use MSM eye drops. A few drops in both ears, just before bedtime, will keep your ear drum from hardening and permeably. MSM accumulate in cell walls to make them soft and flexible which allows nutrients to enter the cell and toxins to move out of the cell. MSM is also an anti-oxidant since it will tie up protein that can accumulate in your ear tissue and damage it.

MSM eye drops are available on the internet and are inexpensive. Just a side note, use them for your eyes and give yourself more health benefits. Using MSM in your eyes will insure that you will never have Glaucoma. Again MSM will make tissue permeable and the will release pressure form the eyeball - Glaucoma- or release pressure from behind the eardrum bring the eardrum back to normal.

So, protect your ears from loud noises, especially if these noises are heard for long periods at time. Then eat a lot of fruits and vegetables or chose a good anti-oxidant supplement to get the anti-oxidants that will protect your ears from free radical damage. Finally, use MSM eye drops in your ears to keep your ear drum flexible so it can vibrate and give you hearing.

3 Simple Ways to Gain Muscle Faster

By Travis Werbelow

It doesn’t matter if you are just starting out, or have been going to the gym a few times a week for the last few years, at some point you are going to want to gain more muscle and at a faster rate. These three tips: Spend less time working out, don’t skip the warm up, and track your progress, will help you get the body you desire.

Firstly stop spending so much time lifting. This may not sound like a good idea. You might be thinking that spending more time lifting, means more muscle gain, well this is not so. Your body has a certain limit of stress that it can take and once that limit is passed your recovery time will be longer. Your goal in the gym is to “spark” your muscles into their growth stage, once you have done this, there is nothing more to do.

This can be obtainable by:

Working out no more then 3 days a week

Spending less than an hour lifting

Performing 5-7 sets for your larger muscle sets (chest, back, thighs)

Performing 2-4 sets for your smaller muscle sets (biceps, triceps, abs)

If you can stick to spending less time at the gym, you’ll be able to see some promising results.

Secondly, make sure that you don’t skip the warm up. Once you get into the gym, you are ready to lift, that’s understandable. However in order to get the most out of your work out, a warm up is a must. A warm up will get your heart rate up, your muscles ready to lift more weight, and your mind ready as well. A sample warm up could be, doing some sort of cardio exercise such as running or biking for about 5 or so minutes, just to get your heart rate going. Next you’re going to want to spend about 15 minutes warming up the muscles your planning on working out that day. For example if your going to be focusing on your chest, you’re going to want to do 5 sets of bench press in the following way.

Set 1 50% X 10 reps

Set 2 60% X 6 reps

Set 4 80% X 3 reps

Set 5 90% X 1 rep

The percentage is the percent of how much you’re going to be lifting during your normal workout. For example if your are going to be pressing 200 lbs, then your first set would be 100 lbs and so on. Getting the proper warm up done every time you workout, will increase your muscle gains greatly.

Lastly track your progress. This might seem easy and simple to do, however how many people do you really see with a pen and paper at the gym, probably not to many. Why would you want to track your progress? Well let’s say that one week you bench pressed 200lbs, then you did the same the next week because you forgot what you had lifted the week before. Doing this, you will see very little progress. Your goal should be to lift more then you did the week before. When you track what you lifted, then you know exactly what to lift the following week in order to get the results you are looking for.

If you start using these 3 simple tips when you work out, you should start seeing some great results.

How Do I Get Rid Of My Acne?

By Brad Burns

This is the question that usually begins in the early teen years and can sometimes still be asked by people when they enter their early 20s. In fact, sometimes people can experience acne for the first time when they are in their 30s or 40s, but even at that age they want to know the best way to get rid of their acne.

The best way to start looking at the cure is to get an understanding. Basically acne is a skin condition caused by the overproduction of sebum, and although acne is not just a facial problem, it is the most common area that people want to have cleared up. Unfortunately, these days there are so many different acne treatments and products, cleansers and the like that it is difficult to know where to start. Well, in my opinion the best thing to do is learn how to get rid of acne and keep your skin healthy in as natural a way as possible, and by doing this will teach you good habits for life. Now it is worth keeping in mind that getting rid of acne can be done with over the counter skin care treatments, but I think alternative acne treatments are worth trying, as in the long run, they are much less dangerous then some of the acne medicine offered by dermatologists.

Now because there is big money to be made from treatments, it invariably brings with it old wives tales and myths. In fact, skin experts have to spend a great deal of time dispelling acne myths. But on the whole the main types of skin blemishes are blackheads and white heads. Now although having acne does not mean you have dirty skin or are unclean it is helpful to use a proper cleanser to remove dirt, bacteria and excess oils that can contribute to skin breakouts. But, make sure it is a good quality cleanser as you may have sensitive skins and if your cleanser is not natural ingredients you may find that it is abrasive and irritating, making your condition worse. Then, the next area to look at is your diet.

Although eating lots of fries will not necessarily give you acne it will not be doing you any good either. So, make sure you have lots of fresh fruit and veg in your diet, and most importantly, make sure you drink plenty of fresh water to flush the toxins from your skin. I would highly recommend you follow these steps before going down the route of using harsh chemicals on your skin.

So, to avoid all the antibiotics, topical treatments and the like offered to you by your dermatologist, these are a couple of areas to get you started. Also, it is worth working out before you start what you are going to use to cleanse your face, and what changes you are going to make to your diet, and then stick to it in order to see the results from your acne treatment, and remember to give it a bit of time. And by doing this you will develop good habits that will last you a lifetime.
