Dermabrasion Can Give You Smoother Skin

By Lim Zheng Yang

There are many ways out in the market for people to make their skin more youthful. Some people want to remove fine lines and wrinkles from their faces.

Others may want to get rid of long term acne scars that has left their faces disfigured for many years.

Whatever the reason, dermabrasion is definitely one viable option that these people can take to achieve the desired results. Especially when new skin re-surfacing technology may not be suitable for some patients or are too costly for most people, many patients, and even doctors still stick to dermabrasion.

During dermabrasion, the top layer of skin is being buffed away to allow the lower layers of skin cells to form.

The new layers of skin replaces the skin cells that were buffed away, thereby giving the skin a smoother appearance.

Initially, the area under treatment might look pinkish, but this is only temporary. Within a week or two, patients would have recovered, and their skin becomes smoother.

It is important that the patient wears a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15 to avoid sun damage on the new layer of skin.

Dermabrasion is good for deep layers of scarring, especially when other technology cannot do the job.

Lim Zheng Yang used to suffer from acne and has spent countless hours researching on this skin condition and the best ways to treat it. You can read more about his works at his main site about dermabrasion and his blog for other dermabrasion information. And for his collection of acne resources, you can visit his sub-site Acne Treatment for All.

Dermabrasion Crystals

By Richard Romando

By definition, dermabrasion crystals are used by dermatologists, physicians, spas and salons to clean out the skin off dead cells. Sometimes called micro-dermabrasion crystals, these tiny granules of about standard sizes in grits of 90, 100, 120 or fine 180, are manufactured according to strict standards of health and safety. These dermabrasion crystals are attached or lodged on equipment used to treat patients.

A lot of providers of dermabrasion crystals get their supply from industrial mineral processors. The mineral crystals are modified to qualify as dermabrasion crystals. The crystals are usually made from white aluminum oxide. The highest quality of dermabrasion crystals achieves 99.6 percent clarity. The crystal must not keep dust particles to avoid clogging the equipment used in dermabrasion processes.

If you are looking for reliable sources of dermabrasion crystals, or if you need to them in bulk, check out several online stores offering these products. You may want to browse through several sites to compare prices and services to get the best deal. Watch also for proper accreditation and quality checks on the product. The dermabrasion crystals you buy must be suited for dermatatological and clinical use.

Most good quality dermabrasion crystals cost $2.25 per pound. This may already include shipment and packaging costs. If bought at wholesale, the cost may go down. The supplier can arrange for convenient packaging of the crystals and shipment to your address. The dermabrasion crystals can be packed in any of the following containers available to the customer. Standard jars carry around two or four pounds and up to twelve and a half pounds of these crystals. The product can also come in standard pails that can accommodate 25 to 50 pounds of crystal per shipment. Large drums can contain up to 400 pounds. For bigger orders that reach 2,200 pounds, bulk bags are used.

Micro Dermabrasion - Hurting Skin to Heal it?

By Peter Crump

Acne is an upsetting condition that can be sometimes very difficult to clear, its treatment usually involving the application to the skin of a multitude of cleansers and other potions in a long process of trial and error that can be extremely frustrating for the patient. Clear skin, when it is finally achieved, is thus a thing to be cherished by most former sufferers, and most certainly not something to be taken lightly. So while there is little doubt that recovered acne patients will view their often scarred skin with disappointment, many are unwilling to risk its hard won clarity by trying scar reducing techniques, such as micro dermabrasion, chemical peels or laser treatment. And while medical advances are improving these techniques all the time – micro dermabrasion, for example, was developed as a gentler form of more traditional dermabrasion – those with delicate skin would be wise to carefully weigh up the possible advantages of receiving treatment with the possible risks.

Many former acne patients value the current health of their skin so highly that they do not wish to compromise it by engaging in a treatment that might improve the look of their skin further for fear that they might find themselves plummeting back to the bad old days. Acne is a condition that can be painful both physically and psychologically, resulting in scars to self-esteem and confidence as well as to the skin, and is something that no recovered sufferer wishes to revisit. But while it is understandable that patients wish to preserve the clarity of their skin, the fear that micro dermabrasion, for instance, will result in a resurgence of acne is unfounded. Acne is caused specifically by the body’s overproduction of sebum, and this is not something that dermabrasion machines will induce.

But micro dermabrasion is not foolproof, and can give poor results. Though this treatment is gentler than the use of dermabrasion machines, which require the use of local anaesthetics and can leave skin quite raw, it can sometimes yield disappointing results. These kinds of treatments are also expensive, an important aspect to the patient who has probably already spend large sums of money on curing their acne problem. Many patients prefer to use home dermabrasion kits, which are not only cheaper, but leave the patient in control of their treatment. This can be an ideal way to try out this type of treatment, to better decide whether it is appropriate for them.

Dermabrasion Information

By Alan Hood

Dermabrasion is the medical terminology for a “sanding-like” exfoliation of the skin via a specialized rotary device.

Length and details of the Dermabrasion procedure

In the Dermabrasion procedure a mechanical scraping of the top layers of skin occurs which results in the softening of your skin jagged edges or irregularities in its surface texture. Dermabrasion is sought after for its ability to aid in reducing the surface damaged caused by acne, facial scars, fine or emerging wrinkles.

The length of the Dermabrasion procedure varies from several minutes to

less than an hour depending on the individuals needs. Many professionals recommend spreading the procedure of several sessions of shorter durations.

To minimize on discomfort a local anesthetic is employed, which may include a numbing spray.

As this procedure is not considered surgery, almost all procedures are performed as an outpatient procedure.

Risks and/or complications related to Dermabrasion

As Dermabrasion does refer to the abrasive removal of the skins surface some side affects will be experienced after the procedure. Possible side effects include tingling, burning, itching, swelling, redness, all usually temporary in their impact. Some individuals will experience a lightening of the skin, which can result in sensitivity to sun and the loss of ability to tan. Patients are advised to wear hypoallergenic make up after Dermabrasion has been performed.

In addition there are other associated risks with this procedure that include the chance abnormal skin color changes which can of the permanent nature. Other risks include infection, scarring, fever blisters, and cold sores.

For most patients the recovery time needed should be approximately 2 weeks.

Most individuals should be able to return to work after this period if not sooner. For more involved procedures the recovery time may extend to between 4 to 6 weeks.

Other cosmetic aspects of the surgery will take slightly longer with the eventual fading of skin redness taking approximately 3 months. Those experiencing a lightening of the skin will see a return of pigmentation and greater

tolerance to sun exposure in 6 to 12 months.

Long-term results of Dermabrasion

The skin reshaping aspects of the Dermabrasion procedure are permanent in their results.

How much does Dermabrasion cost?

Costs vary but tend to center around an average about $150 per treatment.

Will my insurance cover Dermabrasion?

For the most part procedures that are performed for purely cosmetic reasons are not covered by most health insurance policies. However some costs may be covered if there is a medical necessary behind the procedure. As always consult with your physician and health insurance plan.

A New Skin with Dermabrasion?

By Chris Donovan

The great range of medical procedures that can be found and applied today is impressive, without any doubt. All types of methods, treatments and surgical procedures that are meant to make us look better and, eventually feel better about ourselves sound very tempting. We can get a new face, we can get a new body and we can even get a new skin. An Improved skin, a better looking skin – this is precisely what the dermabrasion procedure offers.

But is it really that easy? What does the dermabrasion procedure imply? Is there any pain, any risks? And how effective are the actual results of dermabrasion? Let’s take things slowly. For starters, dermabrasion is not an easy procedure, or, clearer said, it is an actual cosmetic/surgical procedure applied to the skin and that requires a general anesthetic. The reason for this type of anesthesia is that dermabrasion is a very painful procedure. Dermabrasion implies the use of a surgical sander that helps in removing the surface skin layer and this precisely what makes dermabrasion that painful.

Furthermore, even though a general anesthetic is used, the patient needs to remain remotely conscious during the dermabrasion procedure. In the recent years, the sander has been replaced with certain lasers, which present some advantages, including the fact that the patient does not bleed during the dermabrasion procedure.

But what is dermabrasion used for? Dermabrasion is used for a wide range of skin and aging problems, such as deep wrinkles (especially the ones located above the upper lip), scars (mainly relief scars and not deep scars) and acne effects. In some cases, the patients need more than one dermabrasion treatment in order to get the results their desire. More pain, more money, but the numerous individuals who are interested in the dermabrasion procedure seem to believe it is worth it. Sure, just like any medical procedure of this type, dermabrasion might present some complications and negative effects, such as irritations and infections, as well as scaring, in case the abrasion is too aggressive.

One of the most unpleasant aspects that occur when opting for dermabrasion is the long recovery. Basically, the patient does not get the expected results right away – what he/she gets is a raw and red aspect of the face - but only several months after the dermabrasion procedure. Only then, the skin gets its tight, smooth and glowing look that the patient desires. In the meantime, the patient needs to avoid sun and to respect a great number of indications in order to avoid complications and to heal properly. Even though the great results in removing scars and marks seem to be sufficient enough when considering dermabrasion, the adjacent effects must be considered, as well, in order to make a responsible and fully informed decision.

Cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures favor better prepared patients. Find out now what you must know, before you say: “Do It!”. Informative site http://cosmeticplasticsurgeons.com.au

Dermabrasion For Skin Rejuvenation

By Tom Disouza

If you are searching for solutions for your acne scars for a long time, dermabrasion is the perfect answer for removing your acne scars. Dermabrasion is an ablative surgery procedure, which physically abrades the epidermis and dermis of your skin in a controlled fashion using a fine wire brush or a diamond fraise. Besides using the dermabrasion technique for your scars you can also go for it for removing your facial rhytids and for treating various other skin conditions troubling you. The ablation in a dermabrasion rejuvenates the skin by stimulating the production of new layers of skin.

As a surgery procedure dernabrasion needs a lot of care before and after. Preparing for dermabrasion surgery is as important as the actual surgery itself.

Preparing the skin before the procedure

Preparation for dermabrasion includes the application of ointments such as Retin-A to be applied to the area every night before going to bed. In case you are prone to cold sores, the doctor may prescribe you a course of antiviral pills a few days before the dermabrasion surgery. You should not be taking Accutane for the past eighteen months, if you have so you will not be considered for the procedure. Similarly, dermabrasion cannot be performed for a minimum of 6 months, preferably up to 1 year, after taking oral isotretinoin. Its use needs to be stopped well before the surgery.

You need to tell your cosmetic surgeon about any herbal supplements that you may be taking as some of these supplements may interfere with anesthesia and cause problems during the surgery because of their blood thinning properties. Even some over-the-counter vitamins can be hazardous to you, for example vitamin E, which reduces your body’s ability to clot blood. Similarly, you may have to discontinue the use of anti-depressants.

Just before the dermabrasion is performed for acne scars under anesthesia, your skin will be pretreated with an ice pack for 20 to 30 minutes and sprayed with the a liquid refrigerant. Most dermabrasion procedures for scar treatment are performed using local anesthesia with or without the sedative. Your cosmetic surgeon may also give you some medication.

As great care needs to be taken for dermabrasion before and after, a great degree of care is also needed while moving the diamond fraises or wire brushes and controlling the depth of the ablation.

Care after dermabrasion

Wrapping your skin with the bandage after the dermabrasion is an absolute priority. The dressing may need to be changed and sterile bandages and tape should be used every time. Your skin may start re-epithelializing after 5–7 days of proper post-operative dressings and care. Some residual erythema for up to 4 weeks is common which gradually subsides.

Risk and complication after the surgery can be avoided completely if you comply with pre- and post-operative medicines and meticulous wound care. A scab or crust forms over the treated area as it begins to heal. You face may itch as new skin starts to grow from beneath.

The Truth About Light Therapy for Acne

By Dennis Wilson

Are you frustrated with over-the-counter and prescription acne treatments that don’t work? Well people like you are turning to blue light therapy for acne. But does it work? How can shining a blue light on your face make any difference? Are there any side effects? And what does it cost? This article will answer these questions so you can decide if light therapy is for you.

It’s unbelievable but it’s claimed that shining a blue light on your skin kills the bacteria that cause acne. And red light rejuvenates the skin. So a combination of blue and red is best for treating acne. Of course this isn’t just any old blue or red light. It’s finely tuned to very specific properties, including dose. And it’s been evaluated and approved by the FDA. So it must work… right? Well it does to some extent.

There has been some scientific research that shows blue/red combination light therapy does work for some people. Studies show that on average, there’s a 73% reduction in acne after 8 weeks of treatment rising to 82% reduction after 12 weeks. There’s also anecdotal evidence that it works for some but not for others. This is normally only used for people with mild to moderate acne. Whether it works for you or not, there’s one piece of really good news… there’s absolutely no side effects.

That’s right, not a single reported side effect. That’s most unusual for an acne treatment. The light doesn’t burn or irritate the skin, and there’s no pain or discomfort either. Of course you do have to wear safety goggles to protect your eyes during treatment. There is one problem and that is the cost of treatment.

Professional treatment at a dermatologist typically costs $50 to $150 per session. Typically you might need one or two treatments a week, so the cost quickly mounts up. A cheaper way to go is to buy a home blue/red light box which can be as effective but needs daily use because of the lower power level. This will still set you back around $500. Unfortunately, there’s no way of knowing if it will work for you until you try it.

So there you have it. If you have mild to moderate acne and other treatments haven’t worked for you, you can give blue light acne a go. Just so long as you don’t mind forking out some significant cash. But at least there are no adverse side effects to worry about. There are of course other alternatives with higher success rates and lower costs that you could try instead.

Are Pistachios a Great Acne-Preventing Snack?

By Naweko San-Joyz

Pistachios boast the skin enriching nutrients vitamins A, C and E plus, zinc and folic acid. Yet, new research from University of Toronto's Department of Nutritional Sciences could add pistachios to a growing list of acne treatments that already includes benzoyl peroxide and antibiotics.

The study’s findings revealed that pistachios could help regulate the body’s blood sugar levels.

In addition to a diabetic therapy, pistachio’s effect on the body’s blood sugar levels also marks it as a potential acne preventative. Biological traits characterizing acne onset include improper skin cell shedding, inflammation and excess bacteria. However, because of a pistachio’s effect on blood sugar levels, this nut could prevent acne resulting from excess facial oil secretion caused by a rise in circulating androgens.

Thus, pistachios could inhibit acne lesions induced by a condition called “insulin resistance”.

The relationship between acne and insulin resistance

The pancreas secretes the hormone insulin. The body needs insulin to access its primary energy source- blood sugar (glucose). Insulin binds to key receptors in the blood to release glucose as the body requires more energy.

Insulin resistance happens when the normal amount of insulin the pancreas secretes proves insufficient to signal the release of glucose. So, to compensate, the pancreas secretes more insulin in order to free the needed glucose.

Insulin resistance can incite acne lesions due to increased circulating androgens. Now, the Toronto study’s observations suggest that pistachios can stop androgen surges caused by blood sugar fluctuations.

Pistachios act as a blood sugar regulator

Dr. Cyril Kendall, lead researcher of the study explained, “…Our preliminary findings demonstrate that suppressing the glycemic (blood sugar) response of high carbohydrate foods may be part of the mechanism by which pistachios contribute to cardiovascular health and to the prevention and control of diabetes.”

Other scientists like Loren Cordain, PhD have noticed a link between insulin resistance and acne. In his work, “Implications for the Role of Diet in Acne”, Cordain writes, “Dietary interventions using low glycemic load carbohydrate may have therapeutic potential in the treatment of acne because of the beneficial endocrine effects these diets possess.”

Most acne treatments typically act on one or two symptoms such as surplus bacteria or clogged pores. Adding pistachios to the diet could help create a more robust acne therapy by also counteracting blood sugar shifts that produce excess oils and pimples.

Vitamins For Acne

By Marifer Vergara

Every part of one's body requires vitamins to sustain its proper health, the skin is one of the most important elements of the body that requires these health supplements. The skin is responsible for protecting the body from infections as well as producing various toxics through its pores and glands. Ultimately, it is clear why vitamins are needed to prevent acne on one's skin. This healing agent of the body needs more than just one vitamin to stay healthy. A series of vitamins are needed and are highlighted below:

Vitamin A

Many studies have concluded that low amounts of Vitamin A within the body can lead to heightened incidents of acne. Vitamin A prevents acne by eliminating or reducing the amount of sebum production within the body. Sebum is a natural body oil that is produced underneath the skin to lubricate the skin. As an antioxidant, Vitamin A takes toxic free radicals from the body. Some of the best sources of Vitamin A are green vegetables, yellow and/or orange fruits as well as carrots.

Vitamin B

Ultimately, Vitamin B includes a group of various elements such as Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Pantothenic Acid as well as Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) (among many others). These vitamins keeps one's skin in proper health. With natural elements of vitamins within them, they help to prevent acne. Some foods that Vitamin B are include in are: sweet potatoes, bananas, watermelons, chickpeas and avocados.

Vitamin C

This vitamin is vital for collagen production within the body. Collagen connects the tissue from the bones and skin. This vitamin helps fight against sickness and infections (acne included). Iron absorptions can be helped as well with Vitamin C. More of this vitamin is needed if you smoke, use birth control or antibiotics. Blackberry, grapefruit, lemon, and blackcurrant all have vitamin C within them.

Vitamin E

One of the most important vitamins that fight against acne, the ability to heal and repair skin tissues (because of antioxidant tendencies) is important with this vitamin. The cells are protected because of Vitamin E's ability to check fat oxidation levels.

Some other important vitamins for acne include chromium and zinc.

Acne Scar Skin Care - Great Tips That Help

By Max Suther

If your face is covered with acne scars, you need to take special precautions to minimize the potential for further scarring. You need to learn about special acne scar skin care that will help your sensitive skin.

Skin that is damaged by acne scars requires very gentle products. Make sure you choose cleansers or lotions that are not abrasive. If you wash your face too roughly or use abrasive products, your skin will become even more irritated. You should also make sure to use sunscreen that is oil-free whenever you venture outside. Oil-based products will clog your pores even further and make the acne even worse.

Using peels on a regular basis is another way to help reduce acne scarring. Most peels contain a low percentage of salicylic acid which will help to improve your skin condition. You should use a peel 1 to 3 times per week and maintain the regimen over an extended period of time for best results.

In addition to gentle cleaning products, you should use products specifically made for treating acne scars. These items are usually available in cream or gel form and are made to reduce the appearance of your scars. Many cosmetics and health care companies now offer their own brand of products to combat acne scars. You should conduct some research on the internet or ask a dermatologist which product may be right for your particular acne scars.

Some acne scar skin care products may even feature ingredients to help lighten the color of the scars, making them less visible to the eye. For example, products featuring prescription hydroquinone and glycolic acid are available at your local pharmacy. These will reduce the dark brown areas resulting from certain acne scars. You can also try a lightener that is available over-the-counter if your facial discoloration is not as pronounced.

The earlier you begin taking steps to treat your acne scars, the less likelihood you will develop severe permanent scarring later on in life. You can start to use gentle cleansers, oil-free sunscreens, weekly peels and acne treatment creams. With time and effort, your scars should eventually start to fade.

Cure Your Acne With Coconut Oil Treatment

By Helen Hecker

If you or someone you love suffers from acne - what you want to know is what you can do about it. Yes, you can do it -- look better, feel better, and raise your self-esteem by getting rid of your acne cheaply, naturally and for good. Keeping your skin clear doesn't have to be a trying experience with so many cheaper natural treatments available today.

Nearly 80 percent of people from ages 11 to 30 years have acne, most often on the face, chest and back. Acne is the most common skin disease. Numerous studies have revealed that acne is not simply a problem of the young; it also afflicts people of many ages, and can severely affect their daily lives. Nearly 17 million people in the United States have acne.

I think the cause of acne is related to our acidic, inflammatory 'standard American diet' (SAD) and that would also influence all of our hormones including stress hormones. If you've heard that dirty skin causes acne, it doesn't - it's a myth. The liver gets rid of toxins from bad food, drugs and chemicals and sends them through the skin resulting in eruptions, acne, pimples and other skin disorders.

Some natural home remedies include dabbing on non-gel toothpaste or lemon juice to dry out zits. When you wash your face use a soft touch, taking care not to rub or scrub your skin. This is a little messy but you can try making a paste by mixing three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon together and applying the paste on your pimples at bedtime for two weeks, and wash it off each morning; honey has anti-bacterial action - a cheap, natural home remedy.

One helpful remedy seems to be to use ice to reduce the swelling caused by inflamed pimples: rub it over the blemishes for 2-3 minutes. A new, non-invasive treatment using red light and blue light in combination has been extremely successful on severe acne. Try a diligent application of coconut oil several times a day and at bedtime to see the healing benefits.

Make sure to stay out of the sun if you're taking any acne medications. The treatment plan for acne includes trying to heal the pimples, stopping new pimples from forming, preventing scarring and helping reduce embarrassment. If you wear make-up choose it carefully; it should be oil free.

Coconut oil is one of the best, if not the best, treatments I've found for acne. It bears repeating, you want to be good to your skin and never pop or squeeze a pimple no matter how tempting. Treatment with raw apple cider vinegar will work better on your skin if it isn't already noticeably irritated from acne medicines, acne products or other failed treatment.

If you're going to buy acne products, it's much more worth your while to buy acne-treating products that work against current pimples and prevent the occurrence of new ones. Popping pimples can cause infection and scarring; best not to do it.

To cure yourself of acne, you need to correct the problems going on inside of your body that are causing the acne. Besides external acne treatment it's even more important to work from the inside out too. When you change your diet, your lesions should start getting better within a week or two, with significant improvement the first month.

The best acne treatment is a diet that will help the body eliminate waste; if you're eating the standard American diet (SAD) it'll be reflected in your skin. Adding a lot of fresh, raw fruit to the diet has helped many people clear their skin up; there are tons of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients in fruits.

Good clear skin is often a reflection of a good digestive system. For an easy fiber boost, mix in two tablespoons of ground up flaxseeds into raw applesauce, from two to three apples, made in your food processor. Eating foods with essential fatty acids are particularly important to people with dry skin or acne.

Get plenty of sunshine on your arms and legs; sunshine triggers the production of Vitamin D3 which is essential to having healthy skin. Drink freshly extracted carrot juice, if you can, every day; carrot juice is an excellent cleanser for the liver, great for the skin and contains tons of nutrients, all beneficial for acne.

Fortunately, many people have discovered through trial and error how to cure their acne. In any case, try not to panic about your acne and take it day by day. There is hope - keep researching and testing.

Natural Acne Tips And Treatments - Save Your Skin And Money

By Helen Hecker

Keeping your skin clear doesn't have to be a trying experience with so many cheaper natural treatments available today. Below are some helpful, cheap tips on what to do to keep your acne under control and keep your skin clear. The problem with most acne treatments and acne products is that not everyone reacts the same way to the same treatment; what worked for one may not work for another.

The most common types of pimples are whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts. Acne rosacea is a red rash predominantly on the face. Numerous studies have revealed that acne is not simply a problem of the young; it also afflicts people of many ages, and can severely affect their daily lives. In a survey conducted in Great Britain, 95% of 16-year-old males and 83% of 16 year-old females had acne.

Acne, zits, pimples, blackheads, whiteheads and many other skin disorders are usually, but not always, the result of a bad diet. The liver gets rid of toxins from bad food, drugs and chemicals and sends them through the skin resulting in eruptions, acne, pimples and other skin disorders. Scientists are trying to find the cause of acne and working on ways to prevent plugs.

Since the latest research indicates a connection between stress and acne, make an effort to cut down on stress any way you can. Try applying a thin layer of coconut oil and massaging it deep into the skin to heal and soothe the affected area. There are many natural acne home remedies; you may have to try several to find one that works best for your skin type.

Treatment with raw apple cider vinegar will work better on your skin if it isn't already noticeably irritated from acne medicines, acne products or other failed treatment. Remember, that even the most gentle and natural products you might use to clean your face can leave your skin a bit dry; use coconut oil as an excellent way to re-hydrate the skin after using any acne commercial or natural cleanser. Never underestimate the healing, restorative power of a good night's sleep.

Use baking soda on a test area carefully for exfoliation, if you feel you need it. The treatment plan for acne includes trying to heal the pimples, stopping new pimples from forming, preventing scarring and helping reduce embarrassment. Shave carefully and try both electric and safety razors to see which works best for you.

Any makeup you use should list on the label non-acnegenic or non-comedogenic. Besides acne, if you also have eczema or dry skin, coconut oil will treat those skin conditions too. It bears repeating, you want to be good to your skin and never pop or squeeze a pimple no matter how tempting.

A new, non-invasive treatment using red light and blue light in combination has been extremely successful on severe acne. No over-the-counter creams can help your acne from the inside out; they can only kill some of the bacteria on your face and help reduce the redness.

To cure yourself of acne, you need to correct the problems going on inside of your body that are causing the acne. Drink lots and lots of pure, filtered water every day. Besides external acne treatment it's even more important to work from the inside out too.

When you change your diet, your lesions should start getting better within a week or two, with significant improvement the first month. People with skin disorders such as acne, rosacea, and psoriasis often suffer from constipation; if you are, make sure you're drinking lots of water every day and add more natural fiber from raw fruits to your diet.

Drink plenty of pure, filtered water, a minimum of a quart a day. Good nutrition will help your skin from the inside out. Eat at least two organic apples a day while working to clear up your skin; apples are good for skin health - organic so you can eat pesticide-free skin (most of the apple pectin is in the skin), which helps with constipation.

Consider taking cod liver oil or fish oil supplements every day. Eating fruits that are red or orange in color will help improve you skin health and help to prevent acne.

One should always think about cheaper, alternative, natural, effective treatment methods to get the best cure or solution to their acne, zits, pimples and blackhead problems. Analyze all the acne treatments available and make the best decision for you, based on your circumstances. With cheap, safe, simple, natural, effective, alternative home treatments for acne and pimples, your skin should be well on its way to recovery.

Acne Scars - When Would The Marks Go?

By Joann Grant

The problem of acne is very common among the teenagers as well as the adults. But the life span of acne may vary from person to person. So, for few it is a short, while for others it may seem like an eternity. And finally, when acne gets treated, the next question is how long would it take for the acne red marks to go?

People tend to get impatient when it comes to acne red marks, which normally appear once the healing process starts. They generally last for a short span. But they make people feel impatient. People tend to think that if acne could be removed, why should the marks hang around?

There are many factors responsible for the acne red marks. First of all, severity of the acne problem is the major cause. If one had suffered from a severe form of acne, the acne red marks are more likely to stay on for a longer duration.

Another factor is that the natural resistance of human body varies from person to person. So, the healing process may take longer if your natural healing capacity is on the lower side.

Interestingly you can cure these marks at home also. Prepare a pack by mixing five teaspoons of baking soda and nine teaspoons of water. Apply it on the affected area and leave it for sometime to dry. And then wash it off. In order to get better results, after applying the paste, you can also massage the spots with soft hands and then wash the area.

Sometimes marks left behind by acne are a pigment problem. Generally the persons with dark skin are affected by these pigment spots, which can be light brown or dark brown in color. If your acne was not treated with benzoyl peroxide, these marks would fade away automatically after some time.

Depending upon the factors stated above, the acne red marks normally last between four to twelve weeks. But the duration might vary from person to person. However, there is no need to worry because the marks would fade away sooner or later.

Acne Skin Care Before, During and After Acne Strikes

By Vince Runza

If you've never had acne before, you're luckier than I've been. My first bout erupted when I was a teenager. Thankfully, it was intermittent and never a real problem. If you're between bouts of it, there are steps you can take to help prevent it from recurring. If you're past the breakout, but have scarring or discoloration on your skin, you're in luck!

The best thing to do for acne is to prevent it before it ever occurs. A combination of diet, drinking plenty of water and regular exercise will go a long way towards prevention. In fact the fastest growing movement in acne prevention is the all-natural approach. The drug companies and sellers of topical treatments may not like it, but more and more people are taking action to keep their skin clear without taking medicine or applying creams, lotions or other "magic potions" to their skin.

If you're currently plagued by blemishes, don't poke at them. It's tempting to want to get rid of them as fast as possible, but you could do damage to your skin and make the breakout worse. Since acne is not caused by "dirty skin", more washing won't really help, either. Frequent washing, especially with soaps and chemicals, can irritate the skin. Go gently and be patient might be the best medicine you can apply to your face.

Chronic acne that simply won't go away, even if you've seen a dermatologist and/or other medical professional may not be hopeless. There are new ways of dealing with acne from the inside and outside that are natural, safe and have shown real results for people all over the world.

Acne scars, discoloration, pitting and rough skin can be effectively dealt with by skin care professionals using powerful technology and chemical treatments that actually remove the blemished skin. However, even if that's something you can afford, it may not be what you want to endure. Happily, there's a new way of dealing with scarring, wrinkles, burns and other skin problems that you can read about on my blog.

Are you suffering from acne? Have you tried all the “cures”, with no success? Worried about scarring? Find out about a revolution in natural acne remedies! African American Acne Skin Care - Great List of Tips

By Max Suther

Acne is an annoying condition that can cause pain and embarrassment. Unfortunately, the condition can affect people from all areas and ethnic backgrounds. Many products are available for anyone suffering from acne. However, African American acne skin care is also available to help this particular ethnic group overcome the skin disorder.

If you are of African American descent and want to treat your acne, you should consult with a dermatologist. Many people believe that people with darker skin are not prone to sun damage or conditions suffered by other ethnic groups. The reality is that the extra melanin present in darker-skinned individuals makes their skin more sensitive and vulnerable to injury. This is why African Americans may be much more prone to scarring if they suffer from acne for long periods of time.

Fortunately, dermatologists and the health care industry are starting to realize that darker-skinned individuals require different skin care. Traditional products and methods were focused on combating acne and conditions for lighter-skinned individuals. Fortunately, new products are being developed specifically for people of different ethnic backgrounds. These products are often much gentler and less abrasive on the skin.

After extensive research, many products and treatment methods now reduce the risk of a condition called hyper or hypopigmentation that is prevalent in African Americans. The term refers to dark or light spots that appear on the skin and can result from acne. Treatments such as chemical peels are often used to combat acne. However, they are applied with a lower-strength solution for darker-skinned individuals. New lasers that transmit longer pulses are also used for different ethnic groups as they are better-suited for pigmented skin. Treatments such as Restalyne and collagen injections are also not suited for African Americans who have an increased tendency to develop raised scar tissue, known as keloids.

African Americans are not immune to skin disorders such as acne. However, the increased pigment in their skin requires special care to treat the condition. These individuals should choose special products geared towards sensitive skin. They should also find dermatologists who will perform procedures specifically tailored to darker-skinned individuals.

The Potential Danger of Laser Hair Removal

By Antoinette Boulay

Short term dangers of laser hair removal do exist; this includes redness, as well as swelling. It typically lasts only a few days, although in rare cases, or if a procedure is incorrectly performed, a patient can also face other dangers. One potential danger of laser hair removal is the risk of laser hair removal burns.
When the laser hair removal procedure is not correctly performed, there is a risk of getting burnt, because the skin, rather than the hair follicle, absorbs the energy and heat of the laser. Before going through laser hair removal it important to decide whether this sort of treatment is suitable for you, to minimize any danger of laser hair removal, and other possible side effects.
Another frequent danger of laser hair removal is when a particular cream is used to numb the skin before the laser hair removal. This cream has been

implicated in the recent deaths of two college students. Shiri Berg, a North Caroline State University student, allegedly died in early January of a Lidocaine overdose.
Lidocaine cream had been applied by Berg prior to getting laser hair removal treatment at a North Raleigh spa. An autopsy showed that the cream that had been absorbed into Berg’s bloodstream, causing her to first go into seizures and then cardiac arrest, leading to lack of oxygen to her brain. Lidocaine overdose is a serious danger of laser hair removal. It can cause allergic reaction; one should carefully weigh all factors with one’s doctor, prior to usage.
The rapidly building trend of spas going high-tech, offering the latest laser hair removal treatments, and making claims that the procedure is 100% risk free with no side effects is also a big problem. The truth is far from the hype and many patients could develop second and third degree burns, experiencing severe pain.
Other intrinsic dangers of laser hair removal treatment also include operator error and inexperience. Often technicians performing laser hair removal procedures may have only minimal training using the laser. There is a chance of receiving inadequate or improper treatment that may cause, in the worst case, permanent damage.

Laser Hair Removal Tips

By Sam Natarajan

So you have decided to immerse yourself in the fantasy of luxurious beauty that is going to define you as you go through the laser hair removal treatment. But the journey of the experience starts much before the actual permanent hair removal solution starts. There are several steps that you need to take before and after the laser hair treatment which will ensure that you have a quick, permanent and safe hair removal solution. Whether you are looking for laser hair, nyc or you are seeking laser hair removal, Houston the following discussion points are vital for the success of the treatment.
If you have just spent some time in a tanning bed or basking in the sun at your favorite beach, then do not opt for laser hair removal. The skin reaction of a

tanned skin is not favorable when its under the laser treatment and might have some undesirable side effects. Of all laser hair removal tips, this is the most vital one. For people with a darker pigmentation i.e. darker skin color, a skin-lightening procedure such as bleaching should be undergone as a prerequisite to the laser hair removal treatment. However, this bleaching should not be done within the last 10 days to two weeks before the laser treatment. The other thing to keep in mind is the shorter the visible hair that needs to be removed, the better the effect of the lasers. So shaving of the unwanted hair a couple of days before the laser treatment will accelerate the effect of the lasers. Of course, it's a must that you consult your physician before you undertake this permanent hair removal solution for if you are suffering from an ailment like genital herpes or cold sores or skin acne, you might require to take some medication before going under the lasers.
Keeping these key laser hair removal tips in mind will guarantee you not just a great hair removal experience, but a personal after-glow of confidence and happiness that will stand you in good stead for a long time to come. Like we mentioned before, whether you are looking for laser hair, nyc or you are seeking laser hair removal Houston, no matter where you are, remember to act on these gems of wisdom!!

Pubic Hair Removal – Tips And Advise

By Al Falaq Arsendatama

Though there are many pubic hair removal methods, the best methods are waxing and shaving. Permanent ways such as pubic hair removal by laser treatment is unadvisable because there is a lot of unknown ground about the side effects of laser hair removal. In any case the laser treatment will definitely cause some very adverse and long lasting skin irritations and eruptions in this very sensitive area of the body due to the fact that it is always covered and not toughened by the elements and also the bony nature of the area.
Some Precautions Before Beginning The Hair Removal Process
It is advisable to avoid taking a shower or wetting the hair before waxing the

area. Hair becomes soft when wet and fails to stick to the wax and the procedure will be less effective and the wet hair will slip causing a great deal of discomfort and pain that can be avoided by waxing the hair when it is dry. Tough and thick hair is far easier to pull out than thin and weak hair that is more likely to break in the process rendering the procedure ineffective and painful. Other points to note are:
• One must always test a small area of the skin to ensure the skin is not allergic to the wax being used. Belgian wax is the best wax for pubic hair removal.
• Be sure to test a small area of skin first to make sure there is no acute sensitivity or allergic reaction to pubic hair removal using waxing.
• Waxing methods for pubic hair removal should be resorted to only when the hair is 1/8th of an inch long. It is advisable to wait till the hair reaches this length before waxing.
• Clean the skin with disinfectants thoroughly and dry it completely to remove any lotions or oils, which may prevent the wax from sticking to the hair.
• Take care to heat the wax enough and not over heat it and burn the skin in the process. Test the temperature of the wax on your skin before applying it over a large area.
• The consistency of the wax should be soft and not runny like honey.
• Use a pain reducing gel that can be obtained from a pharmacist. Apply the solution 30 to 60 minutes before waxing.
• Always apply a thin layer of wax in the direction of the growth and peel back with a rapid movement as close to the skin as possible. Never pull up or out.
If you do not want to wax, you can shave in the direction of the growth after cleaning the area as described above. Never shave against the growth and never use a switchblade. Only a safety razor made for the purpose.

Pubic Hair Care and Groom

By Paton Jackson

Pubic hair is defined as the hair in the frontal genital area, in the crotch and some add the top inside of the legs. In most cases, distinguished pubic hair can be found within 3 years into puberty.
Women have always paid attention to grooming their pubic hair. In paintings from the 19’Th century naked women have a shaved or trimmed pubic hair. In some cultures as the Islam, women must trim their pubic hair.
There are 3 main pubic hair care types used among women:

1. Removing pubic hair – Pubic hair removal becomes more and more common. It is popular among the modern western society as well as traditional societies like Islam or Hindu. Some remove all they pubic hair while

others prefer to leave some of it usually with the shape of an upside down triangle (other shapes like heart are also popular).
There are several methods of removing pubic hair – trimming with scissors, tweezing, waxing (bikini wax) and shaving. Why use waxing? Hair growth slows within time and it can be done at home.
Why use shaving? It is relatively cheap and can be done at home. Why use tweezing? It is useful to remove some hair fibers but not all pubic hair.

2. Dying pubic hair – More and more women dye their pubic hair although they are not aware of the risk they take. There is no product in the market that was manufactured with the purpose of tinting pubic hair.
In spite of the potential risk many men and women will dye their pubic hair to become real and all red hair or blond.

3. Shaping pubic hair – Becoming a hair dresser and shaping the pubic hair with any shape you can imagine is a widespread phenomenon. The recommended steps to shaping the pubic hair area are: deciding on the shape, trimming the hair besides the hair you are leaving as short as possible, taking a warm shower, shaving the pubic hair with a razor, cleaning the area thoroughly and finally drying it off.
We executed an independent research to find the best method for removing pubic hair. The results were clear. Find out more on pubic hair shave.

Ingrown Pubic Hair - Six Tips

By Mike Jones

Ingrown hairs are known as Psuedofolliculitis Barbae (PFB), razor bumps, razor burn, hair bumps, shaving bumps, ingrowns.
Psuedofolliculitis Barbae refers to hair which has been cut or broken off below the skin level which then begins to grow through surrounding tissue rather than out of the follicle.
In other cases, hair curls round and starts growing back into the skin causing irritation and inflammation.
If you shave the pubic area, you remove the tapered end of the hair and, as the hair grows back without that tapered end, the sharpness will literally cut the skin surrounding the hair follicle.
Use these simple precautions to minimize the discomfort from ingrown pubic hairs:
#1
For ingrown pubic hairs along the bikini line, hold a hot compress against

ingrown spots for ten minutes three times a day to soften the skin and help the hairs work their way out.
#2
Wear loose-fitting underwear and clothing until the bumps are gone to avoid friction.
#3
Some find it helpful to exfoliate the area before waxing. This removes some of the dead skin cells in the top layer of skin cells that often contribute to trapping the hairs.
Exfoliating options include creams, lotions, or body gels, a slightly abrasive washcloth or glove specifically designed for exfoliation. Check at the beauty counter at your local department store.
#4
Do not exfoliate the skin if you already have ingrown pubic hairs as further skin irritation may result.
#5
When waxing, be sure to pull the hair out by the roots. Do not allow the hair to break below the skin surface.
#6
Use Ingrown Hair Treatment (see below). It prevents pubic ingrown hair and eliminates existing ingrown hair within days.
Additional note: For ingrown hairs which are deep, sterilize a pair of needle-nosed tweezers with rubbing alcohol and individually lift each ingrown hair out of its follicle. Wipe the area with alcohol afterwards and shave.
If needle-nosed tweezers are not available, wipe a pin or needle and the ingrown area with rubbing alcohol, then carefully release the hair in the direction that it grows using the tip of the needle only. After the hair is released, wipe the skin with alcohol again.

Personal shavers are gradually becoming a one of the most popular methods used for effectively and safely removing unwanted pubic hair. Also known as pubic shavers, these little devices are perfect for both women and men.
Unlike the old razor blade, personal shavers must be used on dry skin surfaces. Because of this, the whole process of shaving unwanted pubic hair

becomes less messy and more time efficient.
Due to the special design and shape of the personal shaver, the risk of nicking, cutting or biting your skin has become virtually impossible. The pesonal shaver is even perfect for shaving lose skinned areas such as the testicles. This is all due to the personal shaver's special rotary blades and thin foil.
The actual cylindrical design of the personal shaver ensures that you are always able to hold it comfortably while shaving even the most hard to reach spots of the pubic area. The ease of use that that personal shaver can provide you makes it perfect for using on a daily basis. This ensures that you will always be left with a smoothly shaven pubic region.

7 Persuasive Reasons Why Men Should Shave Their Privates

By Doug Smith

Here are seven reasons why men should consider shaving their privates. No, I'm not talking about Privates in the Army, although a "soldier" at attention, with a shiny helmet and a loaded weapon, is definitely involved.
Most men worry obsessively about the hair on their heads but rarely give a second thought to their pubic hair. Only when the time is right with that special lady do men realize they should have spent some time grooming their privates. Guys, here are 7 compelling reasons why you should groom your pubic hair or even remove it completely.
1. Cleanliness. The crotch is a focal point for heat, sweat, and bacteria. Cropping or removing your pubic hair makes that area

much easier to keep clean, and more importantly, smelling clean and manly. She's more likely to explore that area up close if it's well maintained.
2. Novelty. The contrast between your obviously adult-sized package and your new hairlessness can be quite erotic, and not just to you! Your lover may gush over the idea of making love to what now has the illusion of being forbidden fruit.
3. It's More Inviting. If you remove most or all of her objections to performing oral sex on you, isn't it worth the trouble? Pay special attention to removing stray hairs from your shaft. Hair in the mouth sucks, but she won't if she finds one.
4. Don't Forget The Scrotum. A woman's body is playground of softness and smoothness, so don't you think she'll appreciate the same on you? A silky smooth ball sack invites both manual and oral caresses. She's far more likely to play down there if she doesn't have to use a weed-whacker to find it.
5. It's Healthier. She'll see immediately that you have no skin outbreaks or unwanted "critters" to hide. Furthermore, you will have greater manual sensitivity when you perform your periodic testicular self-exam. You do examine yourself regularly, don't you? You should. The earlier you catch any problems, the easier they are to fix.
Learn more about Testicular Self Exams (TSE) at http://my.webmd.com/hw/mens_conditions/hw234856.asp
6. It's Fun To Let Her Do It! That's right, let her shave you! This is not only an exercise in trust, but a highly-suspenseful erotic thrill ride. The danger of an ultra sharp razor in such a sensitive area, the tension of long slow razor strokes, the aching of your pulse-pounding erection, and the foamy friction of her shaving-creamed hand on your shaft can intensify your pleasure like you never thought possible. Just don't make any sudden moves.
And most importantly (to some at least):
7. It Makes Your Erection Look Huge. I'm not kidding - you will swear that you gained at least an extra inch in length! If your crotch is not groomed regularly, you probably have pubic hair at least part way up your shaft. Your penis "appears" to begin where that pubic hair ends. Remove the underbrush and your hidden length will be revealed.
When you're grooming the hair on your "big head," don't forget about the hair on the "little head" too! Whether you do it to please yourself or a partner (or both), regular pubic hair grooming or even total pubic hair removal can spice up your love life. If you like it enough, consider permanent removal methods such as laser hair removal or electrolysis.
Note that some people experience moderate to intense itching the first few days after shaving as the pubic hair grows back. You might want your first grooming experience to be at the beginning of a weekend so you're not squirming in your office chair all day Monday! The itching should decrease or stop if you continue to groom yourself regularly.
And if the guys in the gym locker room make fun of you, first ask them why they are checking out your package. In the embarrassed silence that follows, tell them why you did it, that you're having twice as much sex as they are, and what she's doing now that she wouldn't do before! Then get ready to answer their questions.

Best Laser Hair Removal In New York City

By Josh Riverside

New York has been called the hair removal capital in the world. This could well be true. But which among the hair removal facilities, known as spas, clinics or centers, are the best? There have been polls on this and several personal assessments. Variations are seen in the results.
The latest trend in hair removal is laser technology. If you were a potential

candidate, the ideal thing would be to do some checking and select the clinic you like best. If you have difficulty in finding one in your area, the New York State Association of Laser Hair Specialists can be contacted.
The first point to verify is the type of medical supervision. A board-certified doctor has to be on site to provide overall treatment management. Normally, nurses or technicians carry out the procedure. They should be either New York State Licensed aestheticians or Certified Laser Specialists. Ask for their credentials and experience; you are the one who is paying and you have all the right to ensure that you are in proper hands.
The next step is to make sure all equipment used is approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). It is prudent not to trust any device or procedure that does not have this clearance. The FDA website could be a source for verification.
Usually, you get thirty minutes for a free initial consultation. Discuss the treatment plan and see whether you feel comfortable with it. This could be repeated with couple of other clinics. Check about any warranty; some centers offer a 3-year comprehensive guarantee.
Be wary about any facility that offers permanent hair removal. The FDA clearance is only for permanent hair reduction. After a period, some hair will grow back.
You can be the judge for choosing the best hair removal in New York.

4 Things You Must Know About Hair Loss

By Windel Briggs

Hair loss. Ick! Doesn't sound like fun, does it? Here are 4 things you must know about hair loss.

#1: Hair Loss Is Not Cool

Losing your hair might make you feel much older than you really are. It can also result in others viewing you as a parent or grandparent rather than dating material.

Of course you don’t want to be blinding people with your shiny bald head as you walk down the street, either! (Rumor has it that some people have gotten tickets for “traffic interference” when the glare from their bald heads blinded a driver!)

#2: Hair Loss Can Be Caused By Various Things

Men and women both suffer from hair loss for a variety of reasons. Yet there are so many options available now that no one should have to live with hair loss any more.

The first thing you need to do if you are losing hair is schedule an appointment with your doctor. It could be a sign of a serious medial issue that needs to be addressed.

If you are taking prescription medications the hair loss might be a side effect. For some individuals, hair loss is hereditary. The term male pattern baldness falls under this category.

#3: You Can Fight Hair Loss!

While you can’t do much about the genetics you have, there are some good options of keeping a nice head of hair. Some medications work well for individuals who have moderate levels of hair loss.

For more severe cases, other options may have to be looked at. These days wigs are a good option. Many of them look so good you can’t tell they aren’t real.

Some even feature highlights and things that are in style right now in society. For a permanent option you may consider a hair transplant. This process involves moving hairs from various locations on the scalp so they can grow in others. Each hair is individually harvested and moved.

#4: A Good Doctor Can Help

Having the hair you want is definitely a possibility. Don’t let hair loss be something that affects your appearance or your self esteem. There are plenty of good options out there for you.

To find out which ones fit your particular scenario schedule an apointment with your doctor. They can refer you to a specialist if there are no underlying medical conditions to worry about. You don’t have to worry about hair loss anymore! Of course some people like the look of being bald as it appealing and sexy to them.

Other people like the idea of not having to take the time to wash, comb, or style their hair anymore. The choice is yours but if you want to keep your hair take a look at the options out there before the situation progresses.

How To Stop Hair Loss with Natural Remedies

By Mikael Rieck

Hair loss has been a problem for many people for many years and as an effect of that, there is a huge industry of medical companies that are targeting that market with all kinds of products. As it has always been with medicine it is commonly produced in laboratories and often it is therefore a recipe put together by a variety of chemicals. To avoid all those chemicals that our world is full of people are turning to natural hair loss remedies.

Believe it or not but one of the natural remedies that is said to have an effect on the loss of hair is to rub onion juice into the head. This procedure should stimulate the growth of the hair and might have some positive affects on the loss of hair as well. Rubbing onion juice is not a solution for everyone as onion juice will make your eyes water and has a terrible smell – so don’t leave your house with onion juice in your hair. Secondly it doesn’t work for everyone and there has currently not been any real proof to show that this kind of treatment will actually produce any significant results. On the other hand it is a safer and much cheaper solution than the products already on the market, but to compare the two are maybe not fair to neither of the hair loss treatments.

Using onion juice is not the only natural treatment to be used against hair loss as many other herbs are believe to have a positive affect on hair loss and retention of hair, but as with the onion juice the scientific proofs are still missing. One of the reasons for the lack of proof is that these scientific tests are extremely expensive and there are currently no major companies in the market with a sufficient economical strength to carry through these tests and until that happens the only proofs of bettering hair loss comes from the products offered my the companies behind Rogaine and Propecia.

The key ingredient in brand names such as Rogaine is Minoxidil. Rogaine is one of the only over-the-counter products approved by the Food and Drug Administration for men and women and because of that it has gained extreme popularity. You can find lots of other hair loss products on the market making claims similar to those of Rogaine, but other than Finasterade which is marketed under the brand name Propecia, no other product has been approved as a treatment for hair loss by the FDA.

Using a formula with 5 milligrams of Finasterade it has been marketed with the name Proscar and has also been used to treat prostate problems in men. It works by inhibiting the development of Dihydrotestosterone in the body and the drug does show results when using it as one of the hair loss remedies made available. While the product Rogaine is used as a scalp lotion the Propecia product is only available in the form of pills. As a final remark the use of Finasterade is not recommended for women as it is known to cause birth defects, so if your are a woman and are pregnant – stay off the Propecia product.

Hair loss treatments have been around for a long time, but finding hair loss solutions that work can be a hassle. Visit the authors StopHairLossSite.com website for better hair loss results.

Hair Loss Treatment: Do It The Natural Way!

by: Jeanette Pollock

Hair loss treatment can be done inexpensively by doing it the natural way. You may not have the money to afford any surgery. Simply pay attention to your diet and make use of natural plants for hair loss treatment.

Your Diet Matters in Hair Loss Treatment

You may have forgotten that the hair is composed of protein therefore it is a must that you take in sufficient protein in order to maintain a healthy hair. To be able to sustain a healthy hair growth, nutrients are needed as they do take care of the hair and the scalp. The numerous nutrients which you need to take in are protein, B-complex, Vitamins A and C, omega-3 fatty acids, and cysteine, which is another amino acid. Any deficiency with these nutrients is likely to cause hair loss. Vegetarians should not forget that they should integrate foods rich in protein in their diets such as the beans, wheat, brown rice, corn, nuts, or seeds. The cysteine is another amino acid which makes up the protein. It can be found in foods rich in sulfur like the meat, fish, egg yolks, onion, nuts, garlic, kale, raspberries, and cabbage. This amino acid is also a renowned detoxifier.

The vitamin B, most especially the biotin, aids in maintaining the health of hair. Among the best sources of the vitamin are the egg yolks, milk, meat, brewer’s yeast, soybeans, saltwater fish, and whole grains. You should remember that taking in the uncooked egg whites deplete the biotin content in the body so therefore eating it must be avoided. The use of saccharin which is commonly found in most toothpastes and taking in of antibiotics also produce an adverse effect on your body’s biotin absorption.

Then, make sure you take in enough Vitamin A. The best sources are broccoli, carrots, pumpkin, fish liver oil, yellow squash, spinach, sweet potatoes, peaches, and cantaloupes. Vitamin C is another very important component that ensures a healthy hair. It can be found from the citrus fruits, green vegetables, and berries.

Faster Hair Growth Herbal Treatments

By: David McEvoy

Herbs have traditionally been used throughout the ages to treat all manner of health problems and conditions as well as for cosmetic purposes but in modern times with our fast-paced society and obsession with quick-fix solutions, a lot of that knowledge has been lost or forgotten.

Fortunately, the cosmetic industry has been quick to latch on to the power of herbs, particularly for hair care, and we can now purchase many of mother natures solutions in a bottle or packet. Our hair is our crowning glory as they say so we are keen to keep our locks long and beautiful and many of us would like to promote faster hair growth but with so many options on the market, it can be difficult to know which one to choose.

Hair follicles rely on a number of nutrients to ensure healthy and vibrant growth and if those nutrients are missing then the result is dry, lank, reduced hair growth and possibly hair thinning and hair loss. Herbs can facilitate faster hair growth in basically two different ways. Some herbs stimulate the hair follicles into action thereby facilitating new hair growth and there are others which have an impact on particular enzymes in the body, particularly 5 alpha-reductase which converts to dihydrotestosterone. High levels of DHT are known to cause hair thinning and hair loss.

Herbs that contribute to faster hair growth

• Saw palmetto (Seranoa repens) - This is probably one of the best known herbs for treating hair loss and promoting faster hair growth. It is extracted from the berries of a type of palm tree and acts in a similar fashion to Finasteride (Propecia) by inhibiting the enzyme 5 alpha reductase. Saw palmetto forms the basis of many commercial hair care products on the market today. It is applied directly to the scalp.

• Nettles (Urtica dioica) - Nettles have long been renowned for their medicinal properties, particularly for prostate health. They also have an inhibitory effect on two different enzymes, 5 alpha-reductase and aromatase. Nettles also promote good circulation and stimulate the hair follicles.

• Green Tea (Camellia sinesis) - Green Tea is a powerful antioxidant but apart from that, it can lower DHT levels by inhibiting the enzyme that converts to dihydrotestosterone. Also, drinking green tea can increase the levels of sex hormone binding protein or globulin which transports testosterone in a bound form and reduces the amount of free testosterone available to be converted to DHT.

• Pygeum (Pygeum africanum) - This is derived from the bark of an evergreen and is a popular remedy for treating male pattern baldness. It inhibits the activity of the enzyme 5 alpha reductase in much the same way that Green Tea does and also inhibits the enzyme aromatase, particularly when combined with nettle extract.

• Ginkgo bilboa – can stimulate blood flow and improve circulation and thereby stimulate the hair follicles

• Gotu kola – promotes good circulation and blood flow to the scalp ensuring that the hair follicles receive maximum benefit from nutrients

• Rosemary (Rosmarinus) – believed to stimulate the scalp and promote new hair growth and is a popular herb in many hair care preparations

• Capsicum – increases blood flow to the scalp and stimulates hair follicles

Combating hair loss and promoting faster hair growth

There is no single solution to combating hair loss and promoting faster hair growth as each individual will react differently to various herbs and treatments. There are also many factors that can contribute to hair loss including diet, genetic influences, hormones, age, medication, illness and even stress levels, and in order to treat hair loss effectively and promote new hair growth it is essential to identify the likely cause of the hair loss or poor hair growth in the first place.

Herbs have a natural appeal as they are less likely to result in the unpleasant side effects that are associated with medical treatments such as loss of libido and impotence. However, herbs are powerful in their own right and can carry side effects and as such should be used with care. It is advisable to consult your doctor before attempting to use herbs to treat hair loss conditions as there may be additional factors that need to be taken into consideration including the possibility of a particular herb interacting with other medications.

Saw Palmetto: An Alternative Baldness Treatment

By: John Tulley

Saw palmetto, sereano repans, is often known as sabal, especially in Europe but also found under a number of other names. It is a native fan palm of the south east United States of America, especially in Florida. It was at one time part of the regular diet of the native American Seminole people, even though the taste has been described as repugnant by some. They would collect it, dry it out and use as a year round staple food. It was also used by early settlers as a medicine for cattle with urinary problems and in 1907 a saw palmetto drying facility was set up in Florida by Lilly and Company. It began to be introduced by drug companies in the 1950s when it was used in the treatment of prostate enlargement. It was especially effective when treating the early stages of the disease and considered to be less likely to cause the patient harm from side effects than using other drugs. It was later found to help with hair loss problems by limiting 5 Alpha Reductase action and so promoting healthy hair follicles. Now saw palmetto is becoming the herbal treatment of choice for alopecia androgenica.

Saw palmetto baldness treatment is said to work by interrupting hormonal signals and therefore reducing the uptake by the hair follicles of a damaging chemical called dyhydrotestosterone (DHT ). There are both topical and oral preparations and these can complement each other by reducing DHT locally on the scalp and throughout the body so promoting healthy hair growth.

The study most often cited when explaining the benefits of saw palmetto baldness treatment was a trial run in 2002 by the group of scientists Nelson Prager, Karen Bickett, Nita French, and Geno Marcovici*. This was a relatively small study conducted under double-blind conditions on 19 men between the ages of 23 and 64 years with mild to moderate hair loss. The trial involved administering a oral daily dosage containing 400mg of liposterolic extract of saw palmetto (LESP) with additional [beta]-sitosterol and extra nutrients. Results after five months showed that there was an improvement in hair growth in 60% of the men taking the herbal combination. This compared to an 11% improvement of those receiving a placebo. Although the small number of men taking part in the study meant that the results could have occurred by chance the findings were still very encouraging.

There are now many companies selling saw palmetto baldness treatments and as such there can be problems with differences in recommended dosages. It is a natural product which means that there are variations in the amount of active ingredients that the berries contain. At present there are no regulated manufacturing standards for the purity of saw palmetto and so far the treatment has not yet been evaluated by the US food and Drugs Administration (FDA) for safety. Therefore purity and effectiveness cannot be guaranteed and there can also be wide variations in the quality and concentration from brand to brand. Customers should therefore only buy from reputable companies and must ensure that the preparation contains the saw palmetto lipid extracts. These are the plants natural active ingredients such as fatty acids, oils, waxes and steroids and these are not contained in the juice, bark or dried berries.

Saw palmetto baldness treatments are low in toxicity and now widely used in North America for the treatment hair loss and also used to treat prostate enlargement. Sometimes as an extra step, high concentration saw palmetto in gel form is applied topically to the scalp for improved results. For the early stages of male pattern baldness saw palmetto seems to offer a relatively safe form of treatment before resorting to prescribed drugs.

One note of caution, although saw palmetto can be used by most people, it has not been proven to be safe for women during pregnancy and lactation.

Natural Ways to Stop Hair Loss

By: Anand R

Hair loss can become a big problem, especially in today’s world where appearances count for the greater part of everything. And if hair loss and appearances weren’t enough of a burden to people, the cost of having treatment for hair loss is sure to crush them. There are so many clinics and specialists out there offering their own version of hair loss medications and treatments that even the folks who can afford these exorbitant prices usually try three or four different medications and treatment before finding one that can help stop the hair loss. Luckily, there are some very natural and inexpensive ways that can help stop your hair loss.

Because the normal amount of hairs the average person loses on a daily basis is accepted as 50-100 hairs, many shampoo and conditioner products are formulated for people who lose an abnormal amount of hairs a day. Many of these products contain Keratin which is the protein found in hair, and helps to strengthen hairs from the roots. These products also contain essential minerals that nourish the scalp, and some of these shampoos and conditioners even offer extra moisturizer to keep the scalp from flaking, which is one common way many people lose too many hairs. The great thing about these products is that they can be incorporated into your everyday grooming routine rather than having to spend hours in clinics or treatment centers.

Another way to really care for your hair is to watch your diet. Now while there isn’t any specific diet to prevent or stop hair loss, it has been reported that adopting a healthier, natural lifestyle generally improves the state of the entire body. For instance eating disorders like Anorexia and Bulimia can cause many people who suffer from these disorders to lose abnormal amounts of hair, but when these suffers changed their eating patterns, hair loss was reduced dramatically. Also, people with a low iron supply in their blood are encouraged to eat foods with more iron since it is one of the minerals needed to maintain the entire body so with the right amounts of minerals in the body, there is a general, noticeable improvement in vision, circulation and hair growth.

Vitamins are also great ways to naturally reduce or stop hair loss. Since the body needs vitamin E and A to produce strong, healthy hair, supplementing any diet with vitamins are sure to help reduce or stop hair loss and keep the entire body functioning as it should. These vitamins can be obtained from the foods you eat and from fruits, or can be bought in capsules and taken orally, which many people prefer since it is easier to take one capsule a day rather than specially preparing food or fruit.

Essential oils have never ceased to amaze humans with their healing properties, which is no wonder why so many people use them as a massage therapy for hair. This has a few advantages. Firstly, it has been recorded that massaging the head and scalp at around the same time everyday can improve circulation and lessen tension in the head which will make hair grow and grow faster. The second advantage is not only massaging the scalp and head, but doing so with essential oils like balsam, bergamot, geranium, cypress, eucalyptus, rosemary, rose wood and sandalwood, all of which have properties that replenish and moisturize hair, create a mild heat that improves circulation and diffuse its minerals and vitamins over the scalp. You will also love the aromatherapy too!

Can An Apple Hold the Secret to Luxurious Hair?

By Sydney Krause

You’ve probably heard of the expression “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Now, scientists in Japan have uncovered that apples provide much more than just good health. Scientific studies conducted in Japan in 2000 found medical evidence that apple polyphenols- specifically procyanidin B-2 – increase hair growth. In fact, studies conducted showed that procyanidin B-2 increased hair growth by 300% over the control samples.

This is exciting news. Anyone who has taken medication or pharmaceutical “treatments” for hair loss knows how potentially harmful and how expensive traditional medications can be. Most man-made hair loss solutions have to be prescribed by a doctor, and getting diagnosed can take some time. Not every patient feels comfortable discussing hair loss with their health care worker, and some physicians are downright dismissive of the problems associated with hair loss.

If you do manage to get a prescription for a hair loss medication, you will have to pay hundreds of dollars – or even thousands – for treatment. Be sure to read the warning label on your medication – most pharmaceutical potions have long lists of side effects and potential hazards. Once you do start using your medication, you may notice skin irritation, pain, and even unsightly rashes. Many products have an embarrassing odour, as well.

Once you have survived all of this, you may assume that you will be able to enjoy a full head of hair, but this is not always the case. There are no guarantees and if you look for reviews of major hair growth formulas, you will quickly find that many patients are less than thrilled by the results. Now, the studies from Japan show why these patients are unhappy. Quite simply, the secret to hair loss is not harsh chemicals or strong drugs. The solution is as simple as the polyphenols in an apple.

So how do apples help your hair grow? One secret is their ultra-high antioxidant activity. In concentrated form, polyphenols from apples are far more potent antioxidants than ordinary vitamins. In medical studies, apple chemicals have been shown to improve protein synthesis, and to counteract hormones that cause follicles to shrink and wither. They also "call" resting hair follicles into active growth, and limit cellular processes that cause hairs to shed. Together, this powerful combination increases the productivity of your follicles. The result is longer, thicker, healthier hair- and more of it.

Thankfully, you don’t have to be a scientist yourself, distilling polyphenols in your own lab. An exciting new product brings you all the benefits that Japanese scientists have found in polyphenols – but in an easy-to-use, safe, and affordable form.

Sydney Krause has been in the mail order business for seven years. She only promotes products that had been proven to work for her or her associates.

5 Great Natural Hair Loss Treatment Tips

By TiongHong Siah

You're probably one of us, waking up one day to find strands of hair on your pillow, some on your dressing table, some in the bathtub, and some more in the sink. You'd feel like tearing your clothes off, screaming like The Hulk, because you notice that patch of glaring bareness on your head.

Oh no. I am losing hair.

According to the wikipedia, it's easier to prevent healthy hairs from falling out than to regrow hair on dormant (i.e. asleep) hair follicles, so before you start stressing a few hairs off your head, try to relax.

Preventing and curing hair loss naturally is actually as easy as a few healthy habits you need to pick up and maintain. Here we go:

First of all, you should stop stressing about everything (and I mean it). This might seem like "duh, as if I didn't know that", but try to really think about it. Are you taking life too seriously? Perhaps you have a few loans and mortgages waiting to be paid every month and the kid is going into university soon, but gaining a patch on your head ain't helping! Therefore, stop stressing and start smiling. If you can't seem to bust the stress, try slowing down and breathing deeply.

If you're here, you not in for chemical hair loss treatments is my guess. Well, try this simple exercise from a nurse: massage your scalp with the fingers daily and before you hit the bed every night, puncture a couple of garlic pearles, squirt the oil on the scalp and massage it. Cover it with a shower cap and sleep on it. (Who said you can't sleep on problems?) The next morning, shampoo and rinse your head.

You can also massage your hair and scalp with olive oil and vitamin E oil before sleeping. Repeat the same procedure; massage and cover your head with a cap. The next morning, shampoo and rinse your head.

It's your scalp that holds your hair, so make sure you keep it healthy too. Blood circulation is particularly important in this case -- massaging your scalp gently with your fingers would help. You could also take half a raw onion, massage your head with it and repeat the cover overnight - shampoo and rinse exercise.

I repeat, your scalp holds your hair. So, it is just common sense to keep your scalp in good condition. Don't dry your hair by wringing it hard with towels -- instead, use a hairdryer (but don't overheat your scalp; it's just as damaging!) or just let it dry naturally. Sleeping with a tight braid also puts tension on your hair, so do try to avoid that too!

Hair loss treatment is one of those processes where you try harder, you fail harder. Remember to take it easy and do not expect results overnight.

If you are really desperate for a regime to follow everyday (and have 15 minutes to spare for your hair treatment exercise eveyday), this is worth taking a look at.

Hair Restoration Procedure

By Charles Browwn

Hair restoration is the surgical procedure aimed at permanently correcting male pattern baldness. It is a generic term to define a number of methods used to restore hair to balding areas. Hair restoration methods involve topical, oral and surgical treatments.

Various methods of hair restoration surgery

There are various methods of hair restoration surgery for you to choose from. The two chief methods that you can opt for are – a.) Scalp Flap Surgery and b.) Scalp Reduction Surgery.

A. Scalp flap surgery – It entails moving a flap of skin and underlying tissues from one scalp area to the other. The surgeon first cuts out a section of the scalp where there is no hair growth He then replaces it by a flap of hair-bearing scalp. The size and placement of the flap will depend on your requirements. You do not need to worry about the scar. It will be covered by the relocated hair.

The objective of this hair restoration method is used to rectify a non-traumatic cosmetic defect. It is also used to repair a traumatic injury site and restore its functionality and cosmetic appearance. Another use of scalp flap surgery is repairing a skin defect caused by congenital malformation. The advantages of this hair restoration surgery procedure include natural frontal hairline, proper hair placement in temporal areas, hair pattern distortion avoidance, etc. However, it runs the risk of certain side effects. They include permanent hair loss at donor sites, scarring at donor or recipient sites, blood supply failure to the flap, etc.

B. Scalp Reduction Surgery – Scalp reduction surgery is the hair restoration procedure usually meant for people with posterior baldness. It is into removing bald scalp and bringing the half-bearing scalp closer to it to fill in the bald area in the scalp. In this hair restoration surgery the surgeon reduces the baldness by cutting out a segment of the bald scalp skin. The hair restoration process in scalp reduction surgery has two parts. The first part includes the surgical removal of the bald portion of the scalp. The other part entails hair-bearing scalp being upwardly stretched to replace the bald scalp that has been removed. You many need the scalp reduction surgery to be conducted in combination with the surgical procedure called brow lifting. This procedure removes the frown lines from the forehead and crow’s feet from around the eyes. In your case this surgical procedure can be carried out through scalp extension or scalp expansion device. In this technique the hair-bearing scalp skin is stretched causing better coverage to bald areas of the scalp. This hair restoration surgery is often combined with hair transplantation. What’s the objective? Well, one possible objective is to “fine tune” hair restoration in your anesthetically sensitive areas. One example of such an area is your frontal hairline.

The scalp reduction surgery can be conducted before, during or after hair transplantation. The appropriate time will be identified mainly on the basis of your need. How to decide which scalp reduction technique is correct for you? That depends on various factors like your hair loss degree, laxity of the scalp, donor hair amount, etc. The possible complications and side effects that you may face include scarring at the suture lines, scalp skin “stretch back” at the excised bald area and central midline scar called slot deformity.

C. Recent advances in hair transplantation – The emergence of some relatively recent advances in hair transplantation techniques offer better surgery outcomes for pattern baldness. These new hair restoration techniques are less complicated and painful.

Follicular Unit Transplantation – At present it is considered to be the most reliable hair transplant technique. Its success rate is almost 10 per cent. A follicular unit is a physiological unit that needs to be extracted and transplanted as an intact unit. Its advantages include natural looking hair, more effective surgery due to the use of stereoscopic microscopes for dissection, avoidance of damage to the follicular unit, etc. However, it is a time consuming procedure.

Direct Hair Implant (DHI) – The minimally invasive hair transplant procedure for follicular hair transplant, DHI is free from the use of scalpel, stitches and a donor strip. The technique is based on the transportation technique named Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). FUE exemplifies the latest extraction procedure for follicular unit transplants procedure. FUE includes the use of custom-made, precise micro-surgical tools. There is direct extraction of follicular units one by one, instead of dissection. One main advantage of FUE is possibility of quality control during the transplantation procedure. Besides, it is a simple and painless procedure.

Choosing the right clinic

Be very careful while choosing your hair restoration clinic. A standard clinic will successfully help you realize your hair restoration dream. On the other hand the selection of a wrong clinic will lead to a faulty service. The various factors that determine the credibility of a clinic include the feedback of former patients, legal status (i.e. whether any lawsuits are pending against the clinic), the professional kills of the surgeon, etc.

Charles Browwn has been studying the hair restoration process for a number of years. He is associated with a number of clinics as counselor. Besides, she regularly writes columns on http://www.hairrestoration.info/follicle-unit-preservation.shtml Hair Restoration Surgery in various magazines and newspapers.

Hair Loss Treatment - Choosing The Right Physician

By Antony Wilton

With modern research tools at your fingertips, finding a reliable hair loss physician should be relatively easy. Most, if not all micrograft surgeons are well-educated and committed to making their patients completely satisfied with the outcome of their appearance. You will find surgeons that are extremely accomplished and have been doing these type of procedures for decades.

The first thing you should do before selecting a doctor is to become as educated as possible about hair loss and the medical treatments that are available to you. Do as much research as you possibly can on the subject. You can find many up-to-date publications in libraries and medical journals. And perhaps the easiest way to become knowledgeable about hair loss and the associated surgery techniques is to read articles like this one and visit similar websites via the Internet.

Call as many doctors' offices as you can and request all of the free information that they provide. Most organizations will be more than happy to mail you pamphlets and even videos which will show exactly what you are getting into. Do not be shy about taking the extra measures to educate yourself.

A good analogy of this step when selecting a physician would be that of buying a car. Your job is to shop around, “test drive” your options, and learn everything you can before making that final selection. But unlike purchasing a vehicle, your hair treatment surgery is much more serious.

Most hair restoration services offer free consultations so that you can come in and explain your hair replacement needs. The doctor will take an assessment of your hair loss history, as well as examine the condition of your scalp. He will ask questions about your overall health and your mental state. He will also like to know about any medications you might be taking, both prescription and nonprescription.

Questions like these are very common with every consultation and it ensures that your doctor can successfully qualify you as an upcoming patient. This serves as an ideal way for you to learn more about your hair loss situation as well as find out if you're comfortable with the doctor and his staff.

Hair Loss in Women - Seven Reasons You Could Lose Your Hair

By Eileen Gravelle

For many women there are few things more distressing than the thought of going bald. Hair loss or thinning hair is expected in men over a certain age. For a woman – it can be a terrible blow to self esteem striking at the root of her femininity.

Hair loss in women is not an uncommon condition. Some experts suggest that as many as one in four women – maybe around 25 million Americans alone - experience hair loss at some time in their lives.

So why do women suffer hair loss?

1. Hormones – We all know that men have hormones too but women are subject to greater hormonal flux with higher frequency and over a much longer period than men. Pregnancy, childbirth and menopause are all conditions unique to women that can result in thinning hair and even total hair loss.

2. Medication – Just as for men, many modern medications, like anti-depressants, blood thinners and anti-cholesterol drugs can contribute directly to hair loss. For certain women the birth control pill can be a contributory factor.

3. Genes – Genetic causes of hair loss are more associated with men but women too can suffer from female pattern baldness, or androgenetic alopecia. Around 15% of American women are affected. Just as for men, dehydrotestosterone (DHT) causes hair follicles to shut down. The result for women is a general thinning of hair rather than the bald spots or receding hairline which is common in men.

4. Stress - The effect of severe trauma can cause a major reaction in the body resulting in sudden hair loss. Traumatic hair loss can be physical or mental and can make your hair fall out prematurely months after the stress is experienced at an alarming rate - up to three to four thousand hairs per day. Though very upsetting sudden traumatic hair loss is reversible. Provided there is no ongoing stress as a result of the initial trigger - the body should be able to recover and the normal hair growth cycle resumed within about 6 months to a year.

5. Illness – many common conditions, like diabetes or thyroid disturbance, put the body under stress and contribute directly to hair loss.

6. Hair damage – women do more to their hair than men and some of the daily treatment we dish out to our hair can have terrible effects. Harsh shampoos, hair colorants, bleaching, blow driers, straighteners – we seem to do everything possible to cause hair stress. The net effect of all this can be dry damaged hair which is weak and more brittle. Weakened hair is more prone to break and ultimately to fall out.

7. Dieting – Women generally diet more than men and are more likely to go on extreme diets to shed weight. Extreme or nutritionally unbalanced weight loss diets can cause hair loss. Although iron deficiency is often associated with diet-related hair loss, a range of nutrient deficiencies can result in thinning hair.

So – like many things in life – the causes of hair loss in women are not straightforward. You could suffer this condition at any stage of your life – the important thing is to try to identify the main causes and take action to deal with them as soon as possible.

Gleevec Therapy Method For Leukemia

By Groshan Fabiola

The therapy of chronic myeloid leukemia with Gleevec (Imatinib mesylate) began to be used in patients in 2001 and seemed to be real success. Since that time, a clinical study revealed the efficiency of Gleevec in other cancer types as well such as in hypereosinophilic syndrome, another blood cancer.

Gleevec is a targeted drug on abnormal cells of the body and doesn’t attack healthy cells like other chemotherapeutics. Gleevec is efficient against a protein called BCR-ABL from the class of enzymes known as thyrosine kinases which is responsible for the excessive multiplication of mature and immature white blood cells in the chronic myeloid Leukemia.

Most cancer forms are caused by genetic mistakes leading to the production of malfunctioning proteins that send a wrong message to the cells. When the abnormal enzymes are inhibited by chemotherapy, the cancer progression is also stopped. Scientists work to find other similar drugs like Gleevec that have the capacity to inhibit dysfunctional enzymes such as tyrosine kinases.

In normal conditions, tyrosine kinases send different signals to the cells stimulating them to perform different actions. Abnormal enzymes send modified messages to the cells allowing them to multiply particular cells in an abnormal rate and cancer appears. 4500 new cases of CML are discovered every year and Gleevec was firstly used on this type of cancer. Chronic myeloid leukemia is caused by a translocated, genetically modified chromosome called Philadelphia causing the occurrence of abnormal tyrosine kinases. This is the primer cause of leukemic cells occurrence in the bone marrow and blood.

Many of the chemotherapeutics used to treat leukemia have negative effects on other healthy tissues as well like skin, bone marrow, and gastrointestinal track or hair follicles, and causes injuries to organs like heart, kidneys or lungs. Gleevec is targeted on mutant protein and enzyme cells and only destructs this type of genetically modified tissues. Gleevec also has its side-effects such as nausea, vomiting, skin rashes or fluid retention due to its toxicity but they are far less dangerous for the human body than other drugs.

The drug therapy using Gleevec proved far more efficient than earlier methods and showed real more improvements for the CML patients. It impressively reduces the number of white blood cells and the number of leukemic cells inside the bone marrow. Gleevec can also be used on persons not responding to the Interferon therapy or the ones that proved intolerant to it.

The administration of Gleevec is easier as well as it is available as a pill not as injections like most of the other drugs. This aspect makes the self-administration possible and spares patients from staying in the hospital for long periods of time.

How To Practice Color Therapy At Home

By Francesca Durham

These days it seems more and more people are appreciating the value and importance of color therapy. Moreover, there is a growing trend to practice color therapy at home and this has led to an increase in color therapy home study courses from all around the world.

These courses are offered virtually through the Internet, and via the postal service. I've personally experienced both kinds and find that each has pros and cons. For instance, if you are a hands on, touchy-feely kind of person, you will most likely prefer and enjoy the 'correspondence' format.

You'll get materials in the mail, binders, cd-roms and other study matter and when you complete each section you simply return the finished work the same way. It's a lot slower than the Internet, but there is the upside that you can receive actual materials like color swatches and other items.

Alternatively, the Internet based model is very popular today. Immediate access to study materials, interactive and rich media is able to demonstrate core concepts, and depending on the color coach chosen, you may even be able to chat interactively with them over the Net. One thing to note about the Internet model is this, time and distance are not a factor, and more importantly because online storage is so available, there is really no limit to what a coach can share with you.

As indicated, each model has its benefits, however I believe the Internet model is superior because it simply offers a much greater level of responsiveness and opportunity to share. And we've not even touched on the value offered by a useful members only website.

A good home-study color therapy course will show you how to attain at least the following 7 benefits:

(1) How to reduce or eliminate stress from your life

(2) Positive visualization and dream manifestation

(3) Creating fulfilling relationships regardless of your past

(4) Boosting your creativity

(5) Increasing self esteem and confidence

(6) Reducing or stopping worry and learn to enjoy a new lease on life

(7) Better health with an improved outlook on life

Of course this is just a tiny fraction of what a comprehensive home study color therapy course will teach you and like any study, color therapy at home can easily become a life long passion.

7 Free Weight Loss Tips

By Elizabeth Stewart

Everyone wants a good free weight loss tip. So, let me pose this question: Who among us can truly say that they are as lean and toned as they ever want to be? Most people, even the fitness buffs, are in a constant fluctuation between their ideal body and a body that is not quite ideal. So how do we turn this struggle in our favor? Many times the difference between the body that you have today and the body that you wish you had is made up of simple everyday decisions. Below I have compiled free weight loss tip or two.

  1. Eating small meals every 2-3 waking hours will increase your metabolism and reduce fat storage. Make sure that these are healthy meals containing protein, carbohydrates and fat.
  2. The easiest way to effortlessly lose weight is to not eat carbs three hours before bed. It has been proven that not eating three hours before bed reduces fat storage throughout the night. Eating protein can also help to accelerate the fat burning at night.
  3. Eating a balanced diet is key in maintaining a healthy body weight
  4. The average sized iced coffee drink weighs in at over 500 calories. Stay away from these
  5. Desserts should be eaten sparingly at an average of no more than two each week. If you really need something sweet, then eat a piece of fruit, such as grapes, or a nice peach. These are very sweet and will quench the sweet tooth you are having.
  6. When eating, eat a small meal and wait 20 minutes. This will give your stomach and brain time to communicate. It actually takes 20 minutes for the stomach to feel full, then to relay this signal to the brain. This is why when you over eat, you are normally eating too fast, and don’t give the stomach enough time to say stop.
  7. Steer clear of any food which says fat free. These normally have a ton of sugar in them, to replace the fat. Also, read the ingredients, and stay away from high fructose corn syrup. This is a sure sign of a manufactured and not natural product. Also, most of these are preserved, which is also bad for you.

If you can really incorporate some of these free weight loss tips into your lifestyle, you will gradually lose the weight, and stay fit. Also, it is not always about the weight, as much as it is about being healthy. Ever see those skinny people eating all the fast food they want to? Do you really think they are healthy because they are skinny? They will drop dead just like the rest of us. Just by following a free weight loss tip you can be on a path to being healthy.

Diet Tea Can Help

By Henry Wershar

Tea is the world’s most widely drunk beverage taken next only to water. It has a refreshing taste, a beautiful and ecstatic aroma and above all a very healthy drink to be taken.

Body should be supplemented with water to prevent dehydration. A normal tea is a very good drink that can help in re-hydration of the body. This is so because the caffeine content is very little in tea.

Diet tea is known to have high quantities of manganese and potassium. Manganese is essential for bone growth and development. Potassium is essential for maintaining a proper heartbeat. If the potassium level is low it can result in irregular heart beat and thus blood levels are affected. Fatigue sets in easily.

A diet tea with little bit of skimmed milk is a very healthy beverage. It contains carbohydrate, protein minerals like potassium, manganese, calcium, zinc and vitamins B1, B2, and B6. High vitamins level is essential in the body as vitamins help to release energy from fats and carbohydrates, increases body metabolism, provides antioxidants and strengthens the immune system in the body.

Diet tea is rich in phenols and other reducing agents, which act as antioxidants. Antioxidants are very useful for maintaining health. Generally, our body chemicals have a tendency to get oxidized. These oxidation reactions of vital body chemicals lead to discharge of free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive in nature and they can spark of any dangerous chemical reactions in the body. Free radicals have been associated with several different forms of cancer like, lung, oral, breast and throat cancer. Besides other diseases like diabetes and heart diseases are also caused. Our body has several antioxidants present. Due to environmental factors like pollution and cigarette smoking, these antioxidants are lost. Therefore, a high quantity of antioxidants should be supplemented in the body. Tea is a beverage that can supplement these antioxidants.

The tea has several other benefits:

Diet tea helps to keep intestines healthy.

It has a beneficial effect in keeping blood sugar level in check by preventing poisonous chemicals from damaging the bet-cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas.

Benefits of normal tea:

Tea not only helps to maintain shining white teeth, but also strengthen the gums and prevents tooth decay. Since tea has high levels of calcium, it only benefits in developing bone strength and overall body growth but calcium induced channels in the body help in muscle contraction. Muscle contraction and expansion helps in all body movements. It helps to strengthen these muscles too. There are scientific reports that tea helps in reducing the level of HDL in the blood. As a result, the overall cholesterol level decreases. Regular tea drinking also helps to regulate blood pressure and keeps it stable. As high blood cholesterol and a high blood pressure are the primary causes for myocardial infarction (heart attack), tea drinking has proved to be a good medicine for its prevention.

Traditionally it is believed that diet tea helps to lose weight. They help to increase the fat burning process by increased metabolism. Also they have laxative and diuretic effect.

However one should not get addicted to this diet tea. It can cause several side-effects including headache, nervous, sleeplessness and problems of lack of concentration. Besides unlike usual tea diet can cause severe dehydration of the body. It also has a negative effect on the heart and can cause increased blood pressure.

Tea has many advantages, one of these is Diet Tea, which can help you lose weight, find out more about Tea at http://teaonesite.com

You Thought Thai Massage Originates From Thailand?

By Tango Pang

Asian massage is very popular as a form of therapy and relaxation. The tradition Asian massage techniques have been developed and refined in India and the Far East over many centuries.

Thai Massage originates in India, Thai massage techniques is a combination of guided stretching and Meridian pressure techniques with Pranayama breathing. This form of massage was brought to Thailand by Dr Shivago K., in Buddah’s time about some 2500 years ago. Pranayama breathing technique is meant for cleansing the body and strengthening ones nervous system. Pranayama breathing is also said to help in boosting the immune system, focusing, concentration, and more efficient oxidation of the blood. Massage is done on a mat or firm mattress on the floor. The recipient is made to practice yoga-like positions during the massage. At the end of the massgae, most recipients find Thai massage very relaxing and refreshing.

Shiatsu Massage hails from the Japanese words - shi, meaning finger, and atsu, implying pressure. It is another form of Asian massage developed in the Far East, known to most as originating in Japan. It uses the pressure of thumb, palms, and fingers, and works along the energy meridians of the body with the same meridians as acupressure. The health benefits of Shiatsu massage include rebalancing of bone system, improvement in our circulatory function, enhanced balance of the nervous system and increase greater flexibility of skin and muscle.

Chinese Tui Na massage is actually a form of Chinese manipulative therapy that was developed more than 5000 years ago. This Asian massage is often used in combination with the acupuncture, Chinese herbalism and other natural health therapies. The essence of this massage lies in applying pressure to the body at certain key points - just like acupressure. It uses a series of pressing, tapping, and kneading with the therapist’s palms, fingertips, knuckles or certain implements that are said to remove minor blockages along the meridians of the body.

The result is the stimulating of qi (natural respiration of the body) and blood to promote natural healing. Tui na massage is used as an alternate treatment for both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as certain non-musculoskeletal conditions. It also has fewer side effects than many modern drug-based and chemical-based treatments since it is totally based on natural therapy.

Javanese Massage of Indonesia is another popular type of Asian massage. It uses all parts of the therapist’s hand, (knuckles, palms and fingers) to knead and massage the body muscles. The whole massage procedure is facilitated by using massage oil. Javanese massage relieves tension, alleviates back pain and helps in the healing of fractures. Though it is the most robust (and sometime even painful) type of Asian massage but very beneficial for your health.

What Is a Shiatsu Massage Chair?

By Christopher Rossiter

A shiatsu massage chair is an electric massage chair that uses ball type, roller mechanisms to simulate an actual shiatsu massage. To understand how these chairs work we must first understand what shiatsu massage is.

Shiatsu is a Japanese word that literally means "finger pressure". Shiatsu Massage involves the use of fingers, thumbs, and palms, to apply continuous pressure to certain pressure points. These pressure points are often referred to as "trigger points".

Trigger Points

Trigger points are cause by injury or overused bands of muscle fibers. These muscle fibers tighten to form "knots". Trigger points can be very sensitive to touch and can also cause muscle tension and a shortening of the muscle. Shiatsu massage applies focused pressure on these areas to release tension and the "muscular waste" buildup.

Shiatsu Massage Benefits

Shiatsu massage is often referred to as acupressure, not to be confused with acupuncture therapy where needles are used. The idea behind this type of massage therapy is to realign muscles and unblock your inner energy source or "qi" for total well-being. Major benefits include:

  • Reduce blood pressure
  • Helps reduce mental anxiety
  • Reduces body tension and stress
  • Helps reduce swelling in injuries
  • Reduced muscle spasm and tension
  • Releases toxins from the body
  • Increase blood and lymph circulation
  • Increased endorphin levels
  • Improve joint flexibility and range of motion
  • Deep muscle and tissue relaxation
  • Faster healing from pulled or strained muscles and ligaments
  • Promotes deeper breathing
  • Balances core energy source

If you desire to experience any of the benefits mentioned above, consult a shiatsu massage therapist. You can also purchase a shiatsu massage chair that will allow you to enjoy these benefits at your own pace, on your own schedule, in the comfort of your home. These chairs are a great alternative to the real thing.

Power of Yoga

By William Brister

The word "Yoga" has been derived from the Sanskrit language and originated in ancient India. Yoga is the union of the body, mind and spirit. The moral and mental union leads to good health and longevity of life. The power of Yoga if practiced seriously leads to positive and perennial happiness and peace.

The benefits of yoga are many. It is extremely effective in increasing flexibility. Yoga positions or asanas, work the various joints of the body including those that are never really used or exercised. It also increases lubrication of the joints, ligaments and tendons. Many of the unrelated non-strenuous yoga positions act upon certain parts of the body in an interrelated manner. When the asanas are practiced together, they work in harmony to create a situation where flexibility is attained relatively easily.

Yoga is the only form of activity which massages all the internal glands and organs of the body thoroughly including those such as the prostate that hardly get externally stimulated during our entire lifetime. This stimulation and massage is beneficial in that it protects us form potential diseases, and even forewarns the body of likely attacks.

One very power of yoga or benefit of yoga is the unique sense of awareness that it develops in the practitioner of an impending health disorder or infection which allows one to take corrective action immediately.

The gentle stretching of muscles and joints as well as by massaging the various organs, yoga ensures the optimum blood supply to different parts of the body. It helps to detoxify our body of toxins as well as providing nourishment. The power of yoga is such that it leads to delayed ageing, energy and a great zest for life.

Excellent toning of the muscles – Muscles that have become flaccid, weak are stimulated by Yoga. This leads to excellent toning of the muscles by shedding excess flab.

The above mentioned points can be measured as the physical benefits of the practice of Yoga. The true power of Yoga is the harmony between the mind and the body to achieve good health. Yoga through meditation works remarkably to achieve this harmony and helps the mind work in sync with the body. Stress, which has become the bane of our fast paced existence, can be truly alleviated through Yoga.

In fact yoga equals meditation. Both work together in achieving the common goal of unity of mind, body and spirit – a state of eternal bliss. The meditative practices through yoga help in achieving an emotional balance through detachment, calmness and a positive outlook, which results in tremendous benefits on the physical health of the body.

The Purpose of Yoga - Overcoming Fear

By Paul Jerard

Could Yoga really empower you enough to conquer your worst fears? Very few people are able to overcome fear, without a serious effort. Fear holds us still, stifles our progress, and distorts our view of reality. Worse yet, some of our fears stem from childhood - whether they are rooted in reality or not.

Yoga offers every practitioner the gateway to self-realization. This newfound awareness allows anyone the opportunity to help focus his or her mind. In turn, a focused mind can separate fact from fiction - much easier than a confused mind.

This Yogic formula is a logical and rational method for determining imagined fears from justified fear, but fear can take on many different forms. Phobias, panic disorders, and anxiety attacks, are various types of fear, which are commonly stress related.

Every day, we fear poverty, the loss of a job, or the loss of a relationship, but sometimes there is no real danger or logical reason for feelings of intense fear, which can take a toll on our health. Our imagination can be a powerful tool toward success in life or the creator of panic attacks, without reason.

Yoga offers many solutions for stilling the mind. The first of these is Pranayama (Yogic breath techniques). Breath is the primary link between mind and body. One of the first techniques Yoga students learn in a class is natural breath.

For adult Yoga students, this means unlearning the short “half breath,” which most adults unconsciously practice from the diaphragm to the mouth. Natural breath can be started as an inhale (through the nose), at the bottom of the lungs, expanding upward through the chest, and finally finishing as an exhale through the nose, while the stomach collapses, at the same time.

This same breathing technique can be commonly observed in infants. During natural breath, the stomach expands during an inhale and collapses during the exhale. When adults relearn this breathing technique, the positive result of tranquility is often felt within minutes. Some adult Yoga students start to feel consistently more relaxed after a short session of natural breath.

This is just one of many Yogic methods, which can be practiced for better mental focus and to still the mind. The benefits of focusing the mind, through Yoga practice, are unlimited. Yoga offers a “chemical free” option for people to empower themselves and move toward accomplishments, success, and achievements.

However, the origin of a solution, to overcoming fear, lies in the individual’s desire to take action in his, or her, best interest. If a person chooses not to help him or herself, no solution, not even Yoga, will help.

Worry, fear, stress, and anxiety, are ingredients which work together to drain life energy from all of us. If we allow worry, fear, stress, and anxiety, to control our lives, we can create a negative cycle of energy which will shorten our life spans. Yoga offers solutions to all of these problems - without side effects.
